    Images that make you laugh

I think we can. Firstly, it has a flat top of a certain width that seems greater than the door width. But an even better reason is that the object is longer than the car is wide, so the doors would not be able to close even if possible to get the item into the car.

    The hush money indictment

I heard on the news that when it comes to sentencing Trump the judge will have to take into account that he is a first time offender (no prior criminal record). I would think that the judge would have to take into consideration that when Trump committed his crimes he had a top official position...

    Why wasn't Gould's NOMA accepted?

But without politicians authorizing the money for the scientists and engineers to build the bombs they would not be able to do so, and in turn those politicians get their authority from the populace, so everyone is responsible, as certain philosophers and songs have pointed out.

    Why wasn't Gould's NOMA accepted?

Technically speaking it is not science that produces weapons, it creates the blueprint, it is industry that actually produces them. But regardless of that, it is religion that provides the motivation for using the weapons being used in Gaza and many other locations/times.

    Why wasn't Gould's NOMA accepted?

The problem with NOMA is that hypothetically it is possible but in practice much religion is opposed to science - on many topics - evolution, abortion, creation, etcetera.

    Images that make you laugh

I can see a tree, and also an ostrich, and yeah even a pair of boobs, but not two people holding hands, though I can vaguely see some partial hands. I see neither; I see King Kong.

What would a tidally locked Earth be like?

With the Earth one also has to take into account the axial tilt, as this affects whether majority of Antarctica facing the sun. Whatever the case the melting of large parts of the Arctic and Antarctic ice will mean high sea level rise, so that is an additional bigger problem (this is if it...

A picture of the influence of disinformation

Biden will almost certainly win the next election, and by a bigger margin than the 2020 one in popular votes, and also in Electoral College points. In the extremely unlikely case that Trump wins (and that is also dependent on if he is already in prison prior to the election) then one would hope...

What should/can we all agree on?

Amusingly, I thought up the other day common situations where 2 + 2 =4 can be a misleading or ambiguous claim. Incidentally, I thought a similar thing last year that would have applied to a certain thread but I never posted it then. It is to do with objects, not pure mathematical numbers. 2 pies...

    The Morality of Atheism

It is interesting that twice you mention that a person would do the moral thing because it would benefit them. Does that mean that if it doesn't benefit them they wouldn't do the moral thing? Is that typical of Christian biblical morality?

Most Americans in Abraham Lincoln's day were Christians. (Christians who didnt own slaves.) Prove me wrong.

Most southerners didn't have slaves because there was a limited amount of slaves available, and also because not everyone wanted a slave even if they supported the institution of slavery. Pood says the USA is a republic, not a democracy. This is a viewpoint among fans of Ayn Rand and other...

    Eternal life through science

Mathematically, the problem of extended life and new humans being born being a problem, is a "start-up" dilemma. Imagine if humans naturally had a lifespan of 300 years for the past hundred thousand years (we probably would still be a pre-industrial society in this scenario), then with normal...

Is Populism a threat to Democracy?

These people may gather in Washington, but they come from the states, so that is where their corrupt nature initially arises. However, it is probably magnified by being in Washington, associating with fellow corrupt politicians. You are correct that the solution needs to start in Washington (but...

Why you should vote for Trump

I find it amusing when Americans complain about the price of gas (petrol in Australia) as our regular prices are similar to your peak prices, whilst our max price is much higher. There are a lot of taxes on Australian petrol.

What should/can we all agree on?

I chose the last option - keep arguing. There are some branches of maths where 2 +2 doesn't equal four. The earth is not a perfect sphere but classed as an oblate spheroid. Supply and demand doesn't always function as the economic theories suggest. While there may have been a person that is...

If you could press a button and....

Murderers is not a static category (nor are many of the others you mentioned). So if wipe out all current murderers, a new batch will crop up. Also what is a murderer? According to some it is anyone who has or performs an abortion. What about world leaders who are responsible for deaths of...

    Hope For The Dying

That's so true. Lion IRC seems to be implying most people want to kill off their relative to get an early inheritance, and as in the USA most people are nominally Christian, he means Christians want to give an early send off to heaven (or hell) to the relative. Also many of the people who would...

    The hush money indictment

When it comes to sentencing the judge also takes into account the conduct of the defendant. Did they display repentance, for instance.

    Hope For The Dying

Yes, their god is rather strange. I wouldn't want to be praised by an amoeba, firstly because it is such an insignificant creature to mighty, glorious me, and secondly its praise would not fully express how great I am, because it is incapable of perceiving my true glory. Of course, the amoeba...

British By Elections - Tories Lose Big

Wow, the Greens in Britain are now a mainstream party! Everyone else in Britain will be surprised to learn this. Also why should you worry about this when the Republicans (you know that "fringe" party in USA) has gone full evangelist? That is a much bigger concern for everyone else.
