God bless you! to an atheist?

I thought I made it unambiguous that the "God bless you" I was referring to was during and after conversations.

So my raging lunatic devout follower of who knows what sister gave the sibling rant about why I had a problem with it and forgot that I asked her not to do it because I don't want to hear it.
it is pretty fucking simple, I don't want to hear it... why should I have to explain any further?

You don't have to explain a damn thing. I was simply explaining my own reaction to phrases like that.

cool, yeah.
I figure I have a right to be free from religion

Dutch is a strange language. When somebody sneezes, the Dutch will say "Prost!", which is the same thing they say when drinking a toast. So a Dutch friend of mine, everytime an English speaker sneezed, would say "Cheers!" I found it so funny, it was a long time before I told him he'd got it wrong. I didn't tell him he should say "bless you", though; I gave him the secular (and, randomly, German) alternative "gesundheit". So much better to wish someone health, even in a foreign language, than to come out with that religious bullshit.

Just remember: if a priest ever says "dominus vobiscum" to you, the correct response is "osculum mihi asinum".

Sorry about the derail.

I don't recall a specific instance of hearing "God bless you" in other situations, although I think I saw an old lady say it in a movie before.

I don't think it's a derail...
but I have had it happen to me many times and nothing related to a sneeze, it is weird to me that people are even saying it.

I think most times people just say "bless you", leaving out the god. It's quite common that complete strangers will say it if you happen to sneeze within their ear shot. That is a bit weird. I usually don't say anything when people sneeze or if they give me a bless you. I think you are supposed to say "thanks" but I usually ignore it. Occasionally I will give out a "you're so good looking" to people I know that watch Seinfeld but other than that I ignore it. Sneezing annoys me, if I sneeze I usually curse, "goddammit" or "f**k".
