When France wouldn't let us fly through French airspace to bomb Tripoli, in 2003, Republicans renamed French Fries to Freedom Fries.
There was also a move to de-Francophile the cities in several states. Anything ending in -ville was to change to -ton, -town, -burg, -borough (votes left to the inhabitants at the next election).
My coworkers were livid. They roundly denounced the French, though places like Mechanicville or Lakeville were purely American towns with an American heritage.
I asked if that heritage included April Fools Day. Apparently i was the only one to look at the calendar that day....

A census district Alaska that was named in honor of Confederate General, plantation master, successful politician and terrorist Wade Hampton is finally getting its name changed to Kusilvak, the Yup'ik name of the district's mountain range.

The locals have been trying to change the name to something that actually relates to them and their communities for a while, but now their efforts are getting a lot of attention and support, and the change should be finalized within the year.
