MONETA, VA (RNN) - Two journalists died Wednesday morning in a shooting caught on camera, and the official they were interviewing was shot. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliff said in a live radio interview that the state police told him the suspect "may have been a disgruntled employee."
Another station reported that police were chasing the suspect on Interstate 81.
The deadly shooting happened during a live interview by WDBJ at Bridgewater Plaza, near Smith Mountain Lake outside of Roanoke.
Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and photographer Adam Ward, 27, died shortly after 6:45 a.m. ET, WDBJ general manager Jeff Marks reported to Roanoke Times. He reported the deaths on live TV at 8:45 a.m.
The woman who was being interviewed is Vicki Gardner, head of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce. She is in surgery after being shot in the back
