The orphans are really feeling all that love and selflessness

Sr. Amala, the nun in charge at the North Delhi center, says they have ended their adoption services as of August. “The new guidelines hurt our conscience. They are certainly not for religious people like us. What if the single parent who we give our baby to turns out to be gay or lesbian? What security or moral upbringing will these children get? Our rules only allow married couples to adopt”. And so they have decided not to be a part of the revised adoption process, asking the government to de-register 13 of their orphanages instead.

Veerendra Mishra, Secretary of Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) said the Missionaries of Charity objected to the new rules due to religious differences. In short, they do not want their orphans to be adopted by single parents. But the “religious differences” get more specific than that.

The Missionaries of Charity run a network of orphanages across India. Earlier, the decision whether or not to allow an applicant to adopt one of their children rested with the Missionaries of Charity. However, the Ministry of Women & Child Development relaxed its norms to allow those who are single, divorced or separated to apply as prospective parents, and with their application being routed through CARA, the Missionaries of Charity have been told that they cannot deny anyone meets the new criteria.

At least we now know what the Missionaries of Charity consider important -- not the charity but the 'missionary' bit.

However pointing this just means the critics are meanminded people who should just shut up since MT did so much good and critics are jealous. :pigsfly:

Mother Theresa's reputation as someone who did "good" is way overrated, in my opinion.

No, no, this is great. This is how it's supposed to work.

I hope this story runs in Kentucky.

Someone should read this article very slowly to Kim Davis, and point out that religious liberty lies in the freedom to walk away from responsibilities you don't want to have, not in selectively ignoring the law, or customizing those responsibilities.

It's also a little hilarious. The churches here are shutting down from dropping membership, there, they're shutting down key indoctrination centers.

I know Christopher Hitchens had a really low opinion of her and her work.

Let me go to all the way to the limit of what anti-gay adoption people will claim, just to get this conversation there. They say that gay men are much more often pedophiles who somehow link up like minded predators to adopt children to molest. As rare as that must be, it seems that a male-female adopting couple conspiring to molest would be even more rare.

I can't understand how anyone with the slightest understanding of religion would be surprised by this.
Hinduwoman, can you find some Hindus to take up the slack please

From what i've read, it's rarely a male and woman teaming up as much as a molester finding a mate who won't interfere.

Somewhere in this mess of conflicting ideas lies a truth about Mother Theresa and about the RC Church. I think there may be people in the Catholic Church who are kind and humanitarian and even understanding of the suffering of gay people at the hands of their church. But, like most big dogmatic institutions, the RCC has layer upon layer of bureaucrats who enforce their reason for authority in the church with these doctrines. They do not care about the human costs of their doctrines, not because they believe in their "merciful god" but because possibly the reason for their power in the organization is dependent on these doctrines. Dissolve the doctrine, dissolve the cushy position. It is the same way in our country with outfits like the DEA. These guys have high pay and high chances of siphoning off illegal cash in their positions...get rid of the war on drugs and their little cash cow is up in smoke. The issue is the same type of issue, though the topics differ. The answer is that Catholic Church should not be allowed to run orphanages and women should have the right to choose how their body is utilized.

Nah. I dont think that RCC is doing wrong because some are being greedy. i think they do wrong because they are wrong and because they want their folly to be right.
