If they get to go home without being arrested, I will be pissed. I do understand, and fully support, all measures to keep these idiot assholes from shooting the place up - but at the same time I didn't see any "negotiations" going on with OWS or other *liberal* protests... just tear gas, riot gear and arrests. I don't want to see the level of violence & pettiness used by law-enforcement against the OWS protestors to be used against these morons, but I do expect to see them charged for their trespassing (at minimum)

And truthfully, I do think law enforcement has handled these clowns perfectly. Law enforcement let them sit there and stew in the wilderness, and now the "patriots" are an absolute national laughing stock.

And for the record, during the OWS public protests I also noted that the Miami demonstrations never gained much traction for exactly the same reason - law enforcement allowed them to go on without interference and they ended without anyone getting hurt... or getting publicity for their cause.

Usually, however, some individual(s) within law enforcement cannot contain themselves and have to go all authoritarian on the protestors; and ignite the situation. I do commend all of law enforcement in Oregon for not doing that.

Because the same people who think these militia whackos are cute and "may have legitimate grievances" as one commentator put it are the EXACT same people who think the OWS and BLM protesters got what was coming to them; they're the same people who think that protesting police brutality is just coddling criminals, the same people who think that victims of police abuse of power are "escalating the situation" by being argumentative or belligerent.

This is a case of extreme criminality by a bunch of heavily armed rural white patriots. They're not the "urban scum" conservatives malign as lazy, entitled welfare queens, they're not the left liberal complainers looking to make excuses for the bad behavior of obvious felons. They're red blooded Americans who love Sarah Palin and the Second Amendment.

And if the feds go in there and massacre them all to a man, we will suddenly start seeing a lot of very smart people and politicians screaming that law enforcement has gone too far, that our police are too militarized, that our cops have been trained to see citizens as "the enemy" instead of as fellow citizens who need to be treated fairly under the law.

IOW: "OMG, it's happening to white people! We've got to do something!"

I agree, this is actually commendable behavior. They have provided an excellent example of how these situations SHOULD be handled.

Unfortunately, we live in the kind of country where people in authority have a tendency not to learn from good examples.

MSNBC has just confirmed the report. Six arrested, two shot. One dead, one in the hospital. They were arrested outside the wildlife refuge on way to a meeting by authorities. Two were arrested in Burns. No mention yet of what is happening at the refuge itself. Tomorrow may be exciting.

aVoy Finicum — the Oregon militant who gained fame for conducting a television interview from beneath a blue tarp — has reportedly been shot and killed by law enforcement officers.
“I have been raised in the country all my life,” Finicum said in a widely viewed television interview with a rifle on his lap. “I love dearly to feel the wind on my face. To see the sun rise, to see the moon. I have no intention of spending any of my days in a concrete box.”

He was reportedly shot Tuesday evening during a shootout when law enforcement officers stopped a group of militants on their way to establish a shadow government in nearby Grant County.
