North Korea: Ranking official 'executed' by regime - CNN.com
David Kang, a professor of international relations at the University of Southern California, told CNN the move appeared to be a show of strength by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Ri's execution is the latest in a string of high-profile officials that have been purged in a dramatic fashion.

"It is another way for Kim Jong Un to show he is in power. He is still young, and still learning who is on his side and who is not," said Kang.

"The people who are on the wrong side become disposable."
Yet more North Korean Stalinism. Personality cultism, gulags, mobilization against the imperialist evil empires, ...

It even has its own version of Stalin's "socialism in one country" -- it is the most orthodox of the world's five remaining Communist countries.

The general is the latest in a line of disgraced officials who have been executed by Kim's regime.

In May of last year, Hyon Yong-chol, the country's defense minister, was publicly executed after the regime accused him of treason. He was reportedly killed with an anti-aircraft gun.

Kim's uncle, Jang Song-thaek, was branded a "traitor for all ages," and executed in 2013.

I believe it's an old news which was since debunked. And half of the people South Korean press claims being executed turns out alive later.
North Korean is a brutal regime but not as cartoonish as South Korean press wants you to believe.

The problem with these stories about North Korea is that we don't know if they are true.

Seoul, South Korea (CNN)A senior North Korean military leader has been executed for "factionalism, misuse of authority and corruption," a South Korean government official with knowledge of North Korean affairs told CNN Thursday.

The official, who spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity, declined to give further details on how or when Gen. Ri Yong-gil, chief of the North Korean Army's general staff, was executed.

Yes in Jan 2014 a story appeared that he was fed to a pack of dogs. People on this forum were outraged.
Kim Jong Un's executed uncle was eaten alive by 120 hungry dogs: report

Soon it was discovered that the story was not true

It Turns Out Kim Jong-un's Uncle Was Not Fed To A Pack Of Wild Dogs

But hey, if we want to live in George Orwell's dystopia then it's important to constantly spread lies about how evil the other is.

In george Orwell's novel 1984 they demonised a mythical character called Emmanuel Goldstein.

Today it is Putin, Kim, Osama, Gadafi etc....

Knowing...and I mean knowing how evil they all are allows us to lock people up and torture them without trial and execute people with any trial or evidence being examined or presented.
But whn we do it, we are doing it because we are good. Is that clear? Good...

The beauty of this is it allows us to froth murderously about how evil these people are whilst patting ourselves on the back for being so righteous.

I myself am still very angry about Kim feeding his uncle to a pack of dogs. Even though he didn't really do it.....in a strange way he did do it.

I don't even recall a thread on the subject.

He was merely killed for "tremendous crimes against the government".

What? Bin Laden and Kim are being unfairly demonized?

When speaking about Russia, I'd agree. But the regime running North Korea? The nation is a nightmare for its own people.

Killed his uncle.

North Korea is a totalitarian nightmare.

In the US Donald Trump is actually winning elections.

A different kind of nightmare.

The nightmare of oligarchy and the need for tens of millions to even have a voice.

I'll take "absurd attempts at false equivalence" for $200, Alex.

Once again this ignorant "false equivalence" remark.

Nobody is saying anything is equivalent, it is absurd to think the multitude of conditions that make up the insanity in North Korea and the US are equivalent, just 2 things that are very bad.

You just said opposing things... they aren't equivalent, but they are both very bad. There is some level of equivalence being made between the two there.

Give me a break!

Saying two things are bad is not saying they are bad in the same way.

You said "very bad". You could be said to be guilty of what the W Admin did with the juxtapositioning of 9/11 and Saddam Hussein. Your defense of your loose statement is similar to W Admin apologists who said 'W never said Hussein was responsible for 9/11'.

Saying two things are VERY bad, and it is VERY bad when a person like Donald Trump is the best a nation can come up with, is not saying they are VERY bad in the same exact way.

The term "false equivalence" is simply a throw term to avoid ever looking at the problems in the US. It is a rhetorical device, meant to distract, not a phrase with meaning.

Whatever dude. You can continue making up your own application of the English language as you feel necessary.

Comparing Trump support with the Regime in North Korea could be said to be needless hyperbole.
