Caught On Tape: Did The US Target Syrian Aid Convoy With Hellfire Missile?

Footage of the nighttime attack on the Syrian aid convoy in Aleppo has surfaced. But there's something curious about how the footage has been appearing on Western news reports. A commenter on the Moon of Alabama blog, PavewayIV, made the following observations about what appears in the video, and what it suggests. First, however, here's an unedited version of the blast, courtesy of ABC:

In the screen cap above, you can see what looks to be a cloud of sparks following an initial explosion. According to PavewayIV, this is a signature of the Metal-Augmented Charge (MAC) Hellfire AGM-114N, the Predator drone's typical payload.

The fiery cloud is produced by the residue of the fine-mesh fluorinated aluminum particles (the "metal augmentation"). Aside from the ABC footage, most other networks have shown edited versions that make this signature difficult to detect.

But US already accused Russia and Assad. Russians said our bombings leave a lot of craters which is true because they use dumb bombs.

I think you're reading more into the video than the camera could record.

By evidence you mean, some blogger's say-so?

Explosion is an explosion.

So could be an American hellfire missile? There was a report of an American drone overhead. Or is that impossible?

And it could have been any other explosive, also. All the video shows is a boom, the "evidence" here is simply asking too much of the camera.

If we accept that convoy was hit by mistake then it does not look like it were russians or even syrians.
It looks like it's a single hit which caused massive fire. This would be consistent with drone attack, mine, RPG or something.

You omitted air-to-ground missile.

I think the Green Party has the right idea about Syria. Simply cut off the flow of U.S. armaments into the entire area. Most of the combat is being done with U.S. weapons. Stop replenishing them. Shut down the U.S. weapon factories and approach the Russians to do the same. We have over 800 bases all over the globe. We are the only country so deployed in this manner. THE ONLY COUNTRY. GOT THAT? We are definitely thinking outside the box of humanitarianism. We have no business importing explosive weapons to any country in the world...We are the only country with all these bases and they are manned and armed...what for? world domination. The Neocons used to name their target...full spectrum domination. Live by the sword....what can I say about that? We have nothing that even remotely resembles diplomacy...we just have spies we call diplomats. One of them was Clinton.

No, I did not, I mentioned attack drone.

This web site claims it was Russian ordinance that hit the aid convoy. They show photos of parts of the bomb and a photo on an unexploded OFAB 270-250 https://www.bellingcat.com/news/mena/2016/09/22/russian-bomb-remains-recovered-syrian-red-crescent-aid-convoy-attack/bomb of the same type.

Could be. After the bombing of Syrian troops by the USA and allies Russia stepped up it's bombing of Allepo. There are reports they targeted a control centre with Americans in it. Which might explain why the Americans were so furious. Who knows.
It's hard to understand what they would gain by targeting an humaintarian convoy, unless it was providing cover for rebel supplies.

It does seem that after the killing of the Syrians by the USA things changed.

Putin Ups the Ante: Ceasefire Sabotage Triggers Major Offensive in Aleppo

The attack on Deir Ezzor was a flagrant act of betrayal. For the first time in the five year-long war, US warplanes targeted an SAA military outpost killing 62 Syrian regulars. The surprise attacks — which lasted for the better part of an hour and were followed by a coordinated ground assault by members of ISIS– were intended to torpedo the fragile ceasefire agreement and send a message to Moscow that the US was prepared to achieve its strategic objectives in Syria whether it had to launch direct attacks on defenders of the regime or not.

The attacks–for which the Pentagon eventually accepted responsibility–were followed by a callous and thoroughly-unprofessional tirade by the administration’s chief diplomat at the United Nations, Samantha Power. Power dispelled any doubt that either she or anyone else in the Obama administration cared at all about the people who lost their lives in the bombing raid. She also made it clear that she didn’t care if the US had violated the terms of the ceasefire just two days before critical parts of the agreement were scheduled to be implemented.

Naturally, Moscow was taken aback by Washington’s reaction, it’s blatant disregard for the soldiers they killed, and its obvious determination to sabotage the ceasefire. Having reflected on Obama’s de facto rejection of the agreement, Putin pursued the only viable option left open to him; more war. As a result, he has intensified his efforts on the battlefield particularly around Aleppo where the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and crack-units from Hezbollah have launched a three-prong attack that will dispose of the US-backed jihadists that have destroyed much of Syria over the last half-decade and displaced over 7 million civilians.

Bottom line: Having foreclosed the political option for reducing the violence, the Obama administration will now face the consequences for its rejection

That's a site of a well known ruso-phobe. And his evidence is just a bunch pictures with uncertain origin.

Yes he is a bit of a joke, which doesn't mean everything he says is wrong but he only pushes one point of view.

And has been caught out quite a few times before.

He is basically an idiot who pushes for war, and has many times been reckless with the truth. But as he is not trained as a journalist he doesn't seem to have any understanding of checking sources or being objective

Drones can carry air-to-ground missiles but so can manned aircraft.

The Hellfire that is the common payload of the drones was developed for the Apache attack helicopter. There's also the Maverick that can only be fired from jets. The Russians also have weapons similar to both of these.

His track record is pretty good, though.

Yes, but russian planes in Syria don't use them.
