"We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones -- and unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth." -President Trump

So far, it's been one day less for radical Islamic terrorism. Trump didn't give a final date, because of course it's stupid to give away your secret military plans to the enemy, MacArthur would hate that. But I'll be stupid and give it at least 147,478 more days.

I don't know that terrorism will die even if Daesh is annihilated because U.S.'s current war tactics comprise in of not only droning terrorists but also civilians which in turn creates more political instability and chaos which give impetus to terrorism. However, I do understand your sarcasm, and so from where I'm standing, what I'd say is we simply have to wait and watch what happens and if President Trump actually comes through with a brilliant albeit "secret" plan that will work in the Free World's favor. However, what I will say I don't want to have happen is for us to in somehow working to annihilate Daesh get tangled in either power play over Syria because to me that seems like a recipe for WWIII between Russia and U.S. since Russia has in recent history been able to establish strategic dominance over Syria. And I also don't want any other Middle Eastern regions to get destabilized as a result of what happens in Syria because that so far has not worked in the favor of any of the world's lay populace and doesn't seem to be a great beginning for the future of eliminating that type of terrorism from the global equation either.

And besides all that, it's disingenuous for President Donald Trump or any of the GOP to posit "radical Islamic terrorism" as an existential threat for the United States when it's not and never has been. Also, it's not "civilized" to be dropping bombs irrespective of level of perceived threat knowing innocent civilians' lives will be claimed as well and therefore knowing that the "civilized world" has dropped bombs 100,000 at an estimate alone during former President Obama's reign makes me think that we generally have a morally bankrupt definition of what comprises of being "civilized" means and that's not including the 70,000 bombs that were dropped during former President George W. Bush's presidency. Also, is it "civilized" to claim that we're civilized when we can know people have become uncivilized in the course of responding to the existential threat that they perceive we as the U.S. validly pose to them with our relentless bombing campaigns?

Martin Luther King Jr. had already reminded us of the truth "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." And so it is. And let's hope President Donald Trump grasps the difference between justice and injustice and fights terrorism (and by necessary extension all terrorists) but not innocent civilians caught in crossfire of a bad situation.

Peace.

The terrorists have already lost. For 8 long years they gained strength and territory because Obama refused to say the phrase "radical Islamic terrorism."

Trump - as President - said the words. That's it. Game over.

The reason we're not seeing any coverage (probably) is because anyone reporting in the region has been trampled by ISIS members running scared. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Islam itself just gave up and the entire Middle East stopped being so Muslim. Because President Trump said "radical Islamic terrorism."

We might not even have to bomb the shit out of them.

I'm not going to come up with any kind of coherent strategy, or really think about what I'm doing at all, but I'm going to say a lot of words and I'm going to do a lot of things, and all signs point to that eliminating terrorism.

It's all about doing things, don't think, don't hesitate, just do things.

 Kudos - loved the sarcasm!

I never understood why President Trump hammered the point during elections of former President Obama not saying "radical Islamic terrorism." Had I been hoodwinked when I thought Shakespeare had already solved the problem for us centuries ago when he'd written, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" and by extension that would mean terrorism by any other name would still stink just as much for all of us as human beings? (Rhetorical question.)

Of course, I'd say that Daesh is in good company because from everything I've read on the Internet, it seems they've wanted President Trump to be elected just as much as President Trump has wanted to be elected to the Oval Office. In a manner of speaking, they have both wanted one another (for different reasons of course).

Peace.

I almost feel sorry for those Islamic Terrorists Holligans. They probably won't even know what hit them!

Oh, it was a huge part of Trump's strategy. Scare the shit out of the middle class white people that the terrorists are going to get them. Islamic terrorists kill about twice as many Americans as hot air balloon accidents. Trump really knows how to scare his base into voting for him.

I know what you mean. I do think scare tactics worked, but I'll tell you what: As a liberal, it's been a little humbling to have President Trump ascend to the Office, and that's because I've realized that while I know we can fault ignorance of those middle class white Americans for falling for his fear-mongering, we also have to fault our own left's arrogance in neglecting working white Americans in terms of their economic situation especially in Rust Belt states and also for not properly addressing the underlying fears of his base with logic and rationale instead of simply repeating Islam is peace when news reports have given coverage to specific incidents of terrorism against innocent people that left an indelible impression on our humanity's collective minds. Therefore, for the left, it wasn't simply sufficient to say that Islam is peace but explain the holistic picture of what's happening in that part of the world and why terrorism is occurring on our soil.

As a Muslim, I'll also tell you that while I do believe Islam is a peaceful religion, it's not a pacifist religion and therefore it is not a coincidence that some extremists and terrorists are able to take specifics within Islamic texts and use them out of context to justify political violence for political ambitions when they see droning of their lands. And also, I personally fault the media for not giving adequate coverage to the breadth of Muslim world's condemnation of terrorism. For example, I know Islamic scholars have globally unanimously condemned Daesh and terrorism in general and also written treatises and fatwas (rulings) on the subject; however, I have extremely rarely seen any coverage of any such instances and so of course President Trump's base then feels that terrorists are out to get them.

Also, it's not a coincidence that we have so much anti-Muslim sentiment thriving in the United States because Islamophobia is a multimillion dollar business, and University of Berkeley and Council of American-Islamic Relations released a report that estimated that 74 organizations are promoting Islamophobia and of them 33 is especially vitriolic and even paring the 33 to only the some that can be called "the core group" funding Islamophobia had access to $206 million dollars of funding between 2008 and 2013. I completely believe in the aphorism, "When in doubt, follow the money." And a 2013 article, relatively old considering it's 2017 now, even names specific elite individuals that for very specific reasons are funding Islamophobia which I found personally quite informative. The truth is that while we can blame ignorance of people, if we refuse to educate them, then we can't blame just simply their ignorance but we also have to at some point own up to our own arrogance in not giving them the knowledge that would enable them to draw saner conclusions.

Peace.

That was a good post. I'm glad that you are a member of this forum. I hope that you stay! I don't think that the democrats have ignored the working class. The following progressive policies will help the working class: health care for all, better schools, more affordable college and trade school, more infrastructure spending, and etc. These are real policies that will help the working class. What does Trump offer? More infrastructure spending. That's it. Cutting off trade won't help the working class. Cutting off immigration won't either. I'm sorry to say but the unskilled manufacturing jobs are gone. Long gone. Trump is offering fools gold to the working class. Actually, many of his policies will hurt the working class.

I agree with what you say about Muslims above. The vast majority of Muslims are against the terrorists. Most people killed by terrorists are Muslims! Islamic terrorism is a big problem. But the way to fight it is to empower our Muslim moderate allies into fighting it!

Actually, I agree with you. But I still feel that we've been neglecting the working class because their wages haven't risen proportional to the rise in standard of living and they are still being made to pay taxes in ways that is squeezing them and their lives have generally not been made better with even with the economic turnaround even since the long days of 2008 Global Financial Crisis. I also think we as the left need to spell out our ideas in a way that is inclusive of all voices, and to be honest, if we had, I don't think we'd have seen the results of the Rust Belt states swinging the way they had in this election.

I agree with what you say about Muslims above. The vast majority of Muslims are against the terrorists. Most people killed by terrorists are Muslims! Islamic terrorism is a big problem. But the way to fight it is to empower our Muslim moderate allies into fighting it!
I agree with you. I'd also say though it's more like that we all, whether Muslim or not, have to invest in the problem of educating people that terrorism no matter who does it is never the right answer. This reminds me of the famous quote of Ben Franklin with respect to the Revolution that led to the formation of America as an independent nation: "We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately."

It was a load of claptrap.

I'd love to have you explain why you say that if you're amenable. Because I assure you, it was no "claptrap."

Peace.

These "terrorist" are a US creation.

Only an ignoramus thinks the US can get rid of them.

All the US will do is kill more innocents and we will end up with more "terrorists" in the end.

When a nation gives power to a person who is so full of himself, he cannot recognize that his only answer is his own "wonderfulness" of course we know that is no answer at all to ANY PROBLEM. We have an official braggart in chief...nothing else...like constitutional protections for minorities, women, etc. etc. etc. I say congratulations America you sure got one "wonderful" guy there to screw up our social fabric and our environment. This guy Trump is a nightmare. His cabinet is a series of nightmares.

The Guardian, CAIR, Juan Cole ? Absolute garbage.

I don't understand. Are you saying that my use of The Guardian newspaper is flawed? But why - it's a reputable newspaper of U.K. Instead, what I've heard and observed is that The Daily Mail and The Sun are the tabloid newspapers in U.K. that peddle ignorance. So, I don't understand your implication. And what about CAIR? And what about Juan Cole? I seriously don't understand what you're trying to say and how you reach the conclusion that any of what I've shared is "[a]bsolute garbage." It would be helpful if you elaborated more on your point of view so I can understand precisely your objections and your position

Peace.

And the joooos are behind the funding of all this "islamophobia" ?!! Get a grip.

A load of codswallop is what it is.

When you run an empire, you "break a few eggs" here and there all the time...like our drone program for example. Because of things like this, there will be terrorism from people who are angry about our high handed violence. They will be Islamic till we leave the middle east. They will be christian and native religious people till we quit screwing with south America and Mexico and Puerto Rico. Terrorism is a response and not a primary causative factor in international violence. We have adopted a permissive attitude toward interventions with drones and special forces and the president's right to kill people without due process. This is simply a matter of sanctioning murder by chief executives as okay as long as it is out of sight and somewhere not the U.S. That kind of permissiveness leads to collective judgments against our society by harmed people and their relatives....and terrorism. There is an answer to terrorism. It is currently being ignored.

I'm sure I haven't said anywhere that any religion or even "joooos", as you mockingly use the term, are behind the funding of Islamophobia. However, I have researched the matter of who's funding Islamophobia extensively and I have come to the conclusion that conservatives and Zionists together are funding Islamophobia for their own purposes and the proof is contained in the articles I have posited. A person can be a Zionist and at the same time be of any religion or no religion, meaning, a person can be either a Christian, Hindu, Jew, Muslim, atheist and still be a Zionist. And in case you should wonder, I don't have anything against any person of any religion. For example, Center for American Progress has also researched the issue of funding of Islamophobia, and the research group comprised of both Muslims and non-Muslims. And you can read their own findings on their research site here or you can read the report directly to which I'm linking you. Facts do not care or are born from a person's affiliation with religion but are independent, or am I incorrect in this assumption? If you don't like what you're reading, then that's up to you; but facts will remain facts whether you like them or not.
