I like watching boxing and MMA and the two sports are sort of coming together in the much vaunted Mayweather v McGregor boxing match coming up in August. I had only a mild interest in this event. I had no doubts as to the motivation for this event, $$$. But at the same time it's an intriguing challenge to see who would come out on top and I'd quite like to see either one of them pulled down a peg or two. But now the event is being promoted through a pantomime so tacky that it must make even the WWF cringe. I watched this car crash of a promotion for about 20 minutes as McGregor and Mayweather took turns to hurl insults at each other on stage while Dana White sat on a stool grinning from ear to ear. I know why White was grinning, he's making bank off of this. But after this, I just can't take it seriously and the mugs that fork out the $80 for PPV deserve all they get, a sham.

Nothing makes the WWF/WWE cringe.

$80? They want $89 / $99 for SD / HD. Now that you mentioned WWE, the immediate thing that comes to mind was WWF's short entrance into what was a real boxing/sloppy MMA setup several years ago. Bart Gunn won the all wrestler tournament, much to people's surprise. So he was then put in the ring against Butterbean at Wrestlemania. Butterbean isn't a great boxer... but he was a boxer. Gunn was absolute toast.

Much as McGregor will be. He doesn't have a chance in a boxing match. It is like putting Richard Sherman into Rugby and expecting him to become a hall of famer. Sure, there are similarities, but the skill set is different. This isn't about who'll win, but how many rounds it goes. And I think it'll go as many rounds as Vegas wants it to go. In a straight up fight, McGregor is knocked out in a round.

This is an odd real life The Great White Hype scenario. The Irish Conklin never had a chance and neither does the Irish McGregor. The Government should have a 300% tax on people who purchase this ridiculous money grab.

Won't be any more of a sham than the completely rigged results of last week's Pacquiao - Horn fight. Such a shame, because it was a great fight and airing it free on ESPN was a great idea to grow the sport. The best Championship fight I have seen in years, but even Horn and the Ref were stunned by Horn being given the win.
Their biggest mistake was not paying off the announcers too, one of whom rather explicitly accused the judges and the WBA of deliberate corruption and told Horn that he'd have to be dishonest or stupid for not admitting that the result was wrong.
Boxing is already dead, expect among the very same dolts who made WWF so profitable and thought that Andy Kaufman was serious.

WWF/WWE is entertainment. You watch a PPV, you get a x hr long show with guys busting their asses out there. Yes, it is scripted, yes, it isn't as bad as they try to make it look, but it isn't simple, especially when it is done well.

Boxing, it is highly questionable regarding legitimacy and you never know what is going to happen and if the fix is in and how quickly a match will be over. Mayweather should win in a round, or two cautious rounds.

I didn't see the fight but I heard the controversy about the result. But at least it sounds like the the two fighters were at least seriously competing. I'm not convinced this Mayweather McGregor fight is for real. I'd like to watch it but I'm not going to pay the $80+ though. I'll catch the highlights later, if there are any.

Professional boxing has always been rigged at some level. I haven't watched a fight for a long time and have little interest in it these days. Although, the Joshua vs. Klitschko fight seems to have been interesting.

Meh, don't pay the $80, just go someplace that has it on and watch it if you are interested. I agree, MacGregor doesn't stand a chance in a boxing match, it would need to be a MMA match for that, and then you would have the opposite problem of Mayweather not standing a chance. I am mildly interested in seeing MacGregor getting pounded mercilessly, so I will probably go to BWW and have a couple of overpriced beers to watch it.

I am not so sure Mayweather is going to wipe the floor with McGregor. Mayweather has not had a serious fight in two years, he's the wrong side of 40, south paw fighters cause him problems. I guess we will find out soon enough.

I quite like McGregor, he's quite a character and be quite charming when he turns it on. But I don't care whether he wins or loses, I'm just interested to see how he shapes up against a boxer.

And it'll it be that much longer after the McGregor event.

Good news, he isn't fighting a boxer.

About as well as Lesnar did a football player.

Looks like the fight went according to Mayweather's plan. I didn't see Mayweather threatened at all. McGregor is no boxer that's for sure and a Mayweather in hi prime would have destroyed him by the third round but give McGregor his due, he did try to compete.

Mayweather's and Vegas'. The over-under on the match length was 9.5 round. It went 10. That was less a boxing match and more an economic exhibition.

Yeah, by any boxing based prediction, the fight was very surprising. But by any economic prediction that fight went exactly as it would if the "fix" was in. All parties that would need to be in on the fix won big. McGregor tripled his net worth. Vegas maximized profits. The ABA makes it appear as though it put on a legit match and hasn't devolved into the WWF. Mayweather not only wins close to 1/4 billion, but he wins a seeming "legit" fight and thus quiets those saying he doesn't deserve to be thought of as taking the record from Marciano.

While I don't firmly believe such a fix, all parties involved warrant such suspicion.
