We have many supposed "childhood arrivals" too, many of them not brought by their parents but crossing the border by themselves. I wonder how many of the 800,000 "dreamers" were actually older than 16 when they came to US illegally and just lied about their age.

I would not be surprised. Kindness is one thing but Soft Touch is another. My point on an earlier thread is basically the American worker pays tax for the children when the Latin American countries should be footing the bill.

There must be some genuine cases regarding children but Mexico and some of the other Latin American countries concerned are not Syrian War Zones.

Many refugees do contribute and this is not what the issue is disputing. The focus those illegal ones who lie to get in and in some cases commit crimes. We have a serious security problem in Europe as witnessed by recent terrorist attacks. That's another issue stemming from the same root.

So as long as the host country as any crime at all, we should not vet potential migrants at all and just let everybody in, no matter their background or criminal history (the guy had an attempted murder conviction in Greece)? Is that your brilliant argument? Or what else did you mean by this?
Merkel did not agree to let in a certain number of refugees after proper vetting. She threw the floodgates open to all and sundry. You did not have to be a refugee (Hussein Khavari wasn't, he lived in not-a-warzone Iran with his brother and decided to move to Europe for economic, not safety reasons). There was no vetting for criminal background or extremist views. You could give the authorities any age you wanted and they just blindly accepted it, resulting in the oldest cohort of teenagers in history.
The whole thing was a disaster and Merkel would be vacating the Kanzleramt if her closest rival (and coalition partner, at least for now) wasn't an even bigger disaster on migration.

Mostly not. Even when they have education, it can be difficult to transfer those skills to a new country with a new language and different professional licensing.

And while some Syrians from the cities are educated, most are not, especially those from the rural and isolated areas are not. And then than there is the flotsam and jetsam of Afghans, Pakistanis etc. that came along with the Syrians mostly for economic reasons. Those are regions where very extreme forms of Islam are common (99% of Afghans support Sharia law). They usually have very little education. Europe does not need more unskilled, uneducated workers, which is why they often engage in crime to make ends meet.

He says that he only has 5 years of school (and probably not at all equivalent to German 5th grade education). Together with learning German, making up for all that missed schoolwork while a young adult would have been difficult, almost impossible.

Even without the rape and murder, he would have been a burden on the German state for the rest of his life. That is not the kind of immigrant Europe or US need. Quite the opposite.

Things are similar with the flood of mostly sub-Saharan (but also Nafri and Bangladeshi) migrants coming by boat to Italy and Spain. They are no refugees, but economic migrants. Most of the sub-Saharan migrants have little or education, and many are actually illiterate even in their own language.
Here is the world literacy map.

Very few African countries are shaded blue (and they are not the areas migrants tend to come from) and only one is medium blue. Some are even red, which indicates <35% literacy rate. Afghanistan is also red, and a butt-load of migrants came from there in recent years.
Does not bode well when you have hundreds of thousands of illiterate migrants trying to make it in the modern, high-tech economies of Europe.

Overall the effect of mass migration is negative. You have mass influx of poorly educated, mostly high-testosterone young men, from a culture quite incompatible with European societies.
The positive immigrants could have been let in without letting in the rest of the rabble. That's why it is important for a country to select immigrants, not just throw the gates wide open.
