US loses leadership role at migration group in UN

I think Trump's campaign promise was that America was going to win so much, that everyone would be sick and tired of winning. The latter has certainly happened a long time ago.

What's the point of UN Organization for Migration other than to facilitate illegal migration into US and Europe?

OK, try to follow me here.

America created the UN and most of those little sub-organizations at the UN for the purposes of projecting power and influence over other countries. It was part of our strategy of being a global leader.

The OOM is not "facilitating illegal migration."

But sure. Whatever. Let's dismantle the UN as being a worthless relic of a time when America mattered on the global stage. Honestly, I don't think America should be a global leader any longer. Not when half of our population are making political decisions based on crazy nonsense such as you just spouted.

The UN Organization for Migration was founded in 1951. It was not founded nor is its mission to facilitate illegal migration. On the contrary, it is supposed to work with countries to facilitate legal migration and polices.

It has 4 broad areas of immigration management:
Migration and development
Facilitating migration
Regulating migration
Forced migration. (source:https://www.iom.int/about-iom).

With climate change, migrations is going to become an even bigger issue over the next decades. Losing a leadership role places the US at a disadvantage, as anyone who is not Trumpista, xenophobe or bigot would clearly understand.

All migration by non-whites is "illegal" migration. Have you not been paying attention to the Toddler Concentration Camp debates?

Bullshit. But to the left-wing radicals like you, millions of migrants from 3rd world countries is something US and Europe must allow without any restrictions or otherwise we are "racist" and "xenophobes".

That is a bullshit meme promoted by racists, bigots and xenophobes. So why are you repeating it?

UN was founded with best of intentions. But the organs of the UN have become corrupted and perverted. Just look at the so-called Human Rights Council. Filled with all kinds of rogue states and human rights abusers and pretty much the only thing they do is bitch about Israel.

Necessitating more stringent border controls and swift deportations of illegals. Also a through reform of the asylum system which is rife with abuse.

I doubt it will matter any more than exiting the so-called Human Rights Council will.

Oh no, how will we endure?

I'm going to try by not giving a shit about something I never once previously gave a thought to.

It's not bullshit. Left-wingers want open borders. Look at that lefty chick who won that primary in NY19. She wants to abolish the ICE and give a path to citizenship to all illegals. That is basically open borders. And on the other side of the Atlantic, the German Left Party openly calls for open borders.

It's not a meme. It's not a conspiracy theory. It's what the hard left really wants.

Well, if the left does not want open borders it's hard to tell exactly what sort of laws they want. I suppose it could be something along the lines of "everybody is welcome to come except accused gropers and anti-gay bakers."

And it worked 60 years ago but these days UN is worse than useless. It is actively harmful. Just look at the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is the HRC.

They are very involved in >100,000 Africans crossing the Atlantic into Europe every year.

Who should be the leader then? Russia? China?

There are some people who want completely open borders. You have called me a left winger, and I don't. Plenty of people on the left do not want completely open borders which should be obvious to anyone with disinterested reading comprehension.

Ah, "the hard left". Just like it is the hard right that wants to close the borders to anyone whom they lable "fakeugees".

Right wingers are really simple creatures, aren't they? Anything less than a 100ft high wall surrounded by a moat filled with ill-tempered sea bass with frickin' lasers on their heads is automatically a call for "open borders."

That's obviously sarcasm, simple creatures. We don't have open borders now, haven't had anything like open borders in a long time (if ever), and nobody (at least nobody relevant) is calling for open borders.

A path to citizenship (or at least legal status) for the undocumented people who have settled here makes sense. They're here to stay, are contributing to the economy, and citizenship is not a finite resource. We're not going to run out of it. Contrary to Trump's rhetoric, we're not being "invaded" by hordes of swarthy gang members bent on rape, and immigration (of the illegal kind) is flat. Reducing the financial incentive for people to come here would go a long way towards reducing illegal immigration.

Weird how we've got massive detention centers to house all these people who have broken the law, yet none of the employers who hire illegals are to be found camped out next to the crying kids. Hmmm...

We could also reduce the number of people arriving here from south of the border by helping those countries to address the issues which lead so many people to leave. What we need is a sort of "Marshall Plan" for Mexico and beyond. A long term effort to improve economic conditions for our neighbor (and their neighbors). It would be expensive, and would take time, but if we put the same sort of effort into this as we did in rebuilding Europe after WWII, it would greatly alleviate our immigration problems and would help our economy as well. Trump wants to punish Mexico (and Canada, and the EU, etc.) but that's the exact opposite of what should be done if we want to curb illegal immigration. We need Mexico to be stronger AND closer to us. A prosperous Mexico that's more than just a neighbor would be a great asset to the US.

Think about it...how many Canadians illegally cross the border looking for a better life in the States?

Who should be the leader then? Russia? China?
On this issue? Italy. Why should a country like the U.S with a relatively minor illegal immigration problem try to be the leader here?

Relatively minor? If my interpretation skills are awake, that means the horrific problems the US has pales in comparison to the abysmally hopeless situation other countries find themselves in.

Since the US is in no position to lead on this issue given the current administration, it is for the better that the US has been removed from the role.
