NBC takes Megyn Kelly off the air for the rest of the week after disastrous blackface comments

NBC News has decided it’s had enough of Megyn Kelly for one week.


The New York Times’ John Koblin reports that NBC will air reruns of Kelly’s show over the next two days while the network continues to deal with the blowback caused by Kelly questioning why it’s considered racist for white people to dress in blackface during Halloween.


“Given the circumstances, Megyn Kelly Today will be on tape the rest of the week,” NBC said in a statement to Koblin.

I disagree. I think she cares deeply.

Whatever issues I have with Kelly, she is a very intelligent and insightful woman who knows exactly what she's saying and doing. She was trying to make a deliberate point with this segment and that point had to do with how she thought it was wrong that this type of thing is viewed as controversial. Her "apology" was bullshit and forced upon her by her bosses, but this opinion is completely in line with what she's said and done throughout her entire career.

With a $69M payday, I’d be happy to be fired from my job too. That’s NBC’s bad, not Kelly’s. Despite her insensitive remarks, she was the smarter one of the two. NBC would be wise to move her to another hour, say late at night or early, early in the morning to use her in another capacity since they are already paying for it.

Her comments were scripted. Everything on that show is scripted. Nothing is said that the writers didn't craft in advance. This is like on pro-wrestling; she is just playing the heel's role. Of course she's getting a big severance, that was part of the deal up front. It's an interesting question. On the one hand, she betrayed Trump by not sycophantically licking his balls after his grotesquely misogynistic comments towards her, so she's a traitor against everything that America stands for. On the other hand, she was fired from a liberal fake news network for saying something politically incorrect that got all the left wing snowflakes into a tizzy, so she is the titular example of a True American who is being oppressed by the sushi-eating fascists for the crime of being white.

It's tough to say how they'll react to her, but the fact that she screwed a liberal news network out of $89 million will probably tip the scales over to her being back in favour.
