Am I the only weirdo who gets off on watching people build stuff I will probably never build myself?

It's completely normal. I don't know how many Arduino videos I've watched. It's a lot

Here's something I've always wondered. How come people who build massive high end speakers have so shitty music taste? All that effort is wasted unless you play some decent music.

I noticed that the guy in the first video used a song that I recognize as in the public domain (or on one of those semi-public dealies). I'm not sure about the second song.

So the song choice might be restricted by copyright considerations.

I was thinking people that I have known personally who build their own speakers. But sure. That makes sense.

Fellow weirdo here. My favorites are woodturning videos, but any craft or art is going to be interesting to me. Also science experiment videos.

Really cool wood working/turning project:

Another cool project. Probably the ugliest table I've ever seen, but great skill went into it.

Exactly. :rotfl:

I love cosplay videos or LARP'ing or re-enactment videos of people putting together their outfits. Mostly because they look so happy when doing it.

So happy

Or this guy:

This guy looks so disappointed all the time, which is part of his charm. I mean... he must love this shit. Why else would he be doing it?:

I love the nerdcrafters, too. Here's one of my favorites. She makes all kinds of cosplay stuff and has many talents from clay modeling to fake fur to painting. https://www.youtube.com/user/yvonne007bgu.

There's also a drag queen nerdcrafter that I love. Her youtube name is Sharon ShareAlike. She made a giant eagle costume with retractable wings. She makes all kinds of complicated costumes like it's nothing. And of course, fringe, baby, lots of fringe!

And of course, the fiber artists. Grace Shalom Hopkins makes the most wonderful yarns. The carding and spinning are mesmerizing to watch. https://www.youtube.com/user/ghfibers

I like build porn, but I think I get more aroused by "restore porn" and "rebuild porn". Here's a couple in that genre that I've watched in the last couple of weeks:

1. Restoring an original Apollo guidance computer (AGC) after decades of non-use. This is part 1 of several parts. Much of what goes on in this is a bit out of my league (OK, it all is), but its fun to watch the process of a bunch of nerds testing it and bringing it back to life:

2. Restoring an old rusty vise. This is probably pretty boring to most people, but I found it interesting, as did a lot of viewers. Just goes to show what you can do with a little time and determination.

That line is also in Jurassic Park.

Cosplayers are insane and obsessed. It's not my thing and never will be, but it's delightful that anyone can be that enthusiastic about anything.

Yes, that's the one.

I enjoyed this one. An engineer took revenge on front-door package thieves by building a box with a built-in glitter bomb/fart spray combo.

Not a build per se, but a nerd getting enthusiastic about his nerdery. Very fascinating to watch. It's amazing how much you can learn from just observing people doing their nerdy thing.
