I was looking online and saw Game of Thrones on sale digitally for a decent price, but then I started thinking. Why watch it again?

The series spends a good deal of time lining up Stannis, and then that comes to nothing, which is fine... if there was some reason it happened the way it happened. So while Daenarys's plot is moving on as she collects supporters, we have another major chunk of the show that exists for no apparent reason. There is the red headed witch that sets up the pins twice, but then nothing comes from it, and she is allowed to shrug it off as MLB'ers HoF'ers only hit 1 in 3 at bats.

The payoffs that were supposed to be in Season 8 were let downs. Red headed witch, eyes of blue... "OMG!!!" is contrived, as is her assistance in Season 8. Varys... I'm with her until I'm apparently not with her for no particular reason? And then the third eye raven who is entirely disconnected with reality is cool with becoming what?!

Little Finger seems to be the only character that has a full and satisfying arc.

The first several seasons were awesome! But the question is, are they still awesome? Yes, Season 1 is Season 1 and is capable of surviving on its own, but does the remainder of GoT's get sunk by a weakening Season 6 and 7 and then the crime against humanity of Season 8?

I can even live with it up to season 7. But season 8 with navies travelling as fast as dragons to get around? Also when it becomes apparent Circi isn't going to live up to her part of the bargin fighting the white walkers. why didn't Dany finish her off first. What is so important about Winterfell? Take Kings Landing and wait for the White Walkers at the Forks.

It simply was a quick wrap up and poorly written, and given the time the producers had to finish the show, that was disappointing to say the least. I agree with you, but if they were going to drop seemingly important plots like the 3 eyed raven, why not have him die in the battle of Winterfell.

One consensus I've heard is that it's quite easy to tell when the show producers were working with Martin's source material, and when they caught up to his produced output and started out on their own. Martin may be a 'consultant' from start to finish, but who knows what that means?

Since it's too late for the last season of the show and the last book in the series to be released simultaneously (something that would have been gangbusters for both), it wouldn't surprise me for Martin to release the final books with completely different plot lines than the final two to three seasons of the show, and for them to be superior in story telling. That would leave Martin laughing all the way to the bank.

Assuming he lives long enough, that is.

The question at hand, though, is do the revelations of Season 8 kill seasons 2 to 5, primarily regarding Stannis? We can lie to ourselves about Dany and her path. How much of the show's plot becomes a road block? Or do you watch the show up until the end of Season 5 or 6 and you cut out Breakfast Club style?

I'm all in for the conspiracy theory that Ty Franck, not George R R Martin, wrote the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Well, it certainly wasn't written by D and D.
