No shit!

Newt Gingrich sounded the alarm for Republican viewers of Hannity Thursday night, warning of a looming purge of angry Democrats looking to “exterminate” followers of the GOP.
The stunning comments came in the context of President Joe Biden’s call for unity, which Gingrich curiously described as “the hysteria of the Biden system.”
...
Gingrich’s’ comments went unchallenged by host Sean Hannity and continue a trend of Fox News opinion hosts warning of a looming purge or “de-programming” of Republicans in the party.

Fox is losing audience to the more extreme conspiracy theory vendors like OANN and NewsMax.
They were slow out of the gate to realize that the crowd that used to be their devoted fans are so incredibly stupid that they will buy ANYTHING, the more extreme, unhinged and divorced from truth the better.
So they're trying to out-ridiculous the newcomers who are eating their lunch.

Is it possible for them to go so far off to the right that they fall off the edge of the flat earth that they will be endorsing next?
Newt, if you want to get exterminated, keep acting like a cockroach.

Conservatives will be totally fine by the end of the Biden presidency, and they'll still be spouting this conspiracy theory BS.

What's the deal with the resurgence of 90's right wing cunts like Gingrich and Karl Rove? Is FOX going to exhume Barry Goldwater next?

What this tells me is terrifying: that actually attempting to exterminate democrats is their next hill. That they have finally spun the rhetoric up hard enough to make this the message. Newt, in making an unsolicited accusation, is ripping their hand. Body of work and all that.

We see "democrats are eating babies", and then Trump's relationship with Epstein comes out. We see "drain the swamp" and "hunter biden" amid rank nepotism of the tRump misadministration. You hear "obama will start a war" and then lo, the tRump administration finishes his term with repeated flyovers in Iran.

Now we hear "democrats want to exterminate..." No. The thing we wish to make irrelevant is hate and xenophobia. That they take it so personally doesn't make for a good look.

Yeah, the new argument... don't argue against the clearly moderate politician. Just claim those unnamed people under him are the radicals.
Gingrich said:
I think you are seeing the hysteria of the Biden system, because it’s not really about Biden himself. It’s his entire team around him who are radicals who believe that they could exterminate the Republicans. That would be one way to get the 'unity',
What bothers me is that the right-wing is big on Mirror Arguments, typically arguing the Democrats are doing what they seek to do.

Also, the "hysteria of the Biden system"? What "hysteria"? Fox News definitely is in competition with OANN and needs to turn up the juice to regain lost audience. It'll be easier with a Democrat in charge, but claiming underlings of President Biden are trying to exterminate the Republicans is beyond ridiculous hyperbole.

They need an extreme narrative, because the one they truly own -- and that Democrats STILL are not giving enough voice to -- is that the GOP attempted to bring down democracy. So by all means, put up a huge smoggy, oily smoke screen.

I'm kinda old.

I remember when Republicans were predominately principled conservatives. I oftentimes supported them.

I see Newt Gingrich as the beginning of the end of that. From his Contract with America to the Clinton Impeachment Circus, he was a main player in the destruction of the GOP.

And they are now reduced to sycophantic Trumpistas, without two morals to rub together. This makes me very unhappy. But I will not be voting for anybody with an (R) after their name any time in the foreseeable future. The Republicans are no longer able to create a vision and action plan that the U.S. electorate will support sufficiently to get elected, so they're increasingly resorting to voter suppression and rigging the system and deceit and obstruction.

I'm fairly ancient myself. Parents were both Navy vets. My father was born in the 1800s. Fought in WWI, WWII and Korea. Both were Republicans.
If either was alive today they'd be 100% horrified by what that Party has become.

Right now I am hoping Trump WILL form a new Trump Party (or, appropriately, the "TP"), wiping the moron vote and the insurrectionist vote from the GOP. That would make the GOP smarter and more centrist as well as reducing their chances of holding a majority any time in the near future. However there is a chance that the Toilet Paper party could overwhelm the GOP if they also get the racist vote, and that would probably not end well.

My parents were young-ish in the Gingrich era. They drank some of that Flavor Aid, namely in the initial spin-up of voter ID rhetoric, where they were claiming that dead people were voting.

They didn't break free until the tangerine fart cloud rolled through, and only because I managed to keep them from falling face-first into Facebook.

Since Republicans are doing such a good job of exterminating themselves, there is no need for Democrats to lift a finger to help.

The movement away from reality by conservatives and the Republican Party predates Donald Trump by about forty years. In fact, he was a victim of the radicalization of the party and the conservative movement. These things won't go away if we never hear anything again from Trump, as unlikely as that is.

If I was Biden I would write an order re-instating the equal time requirement for broadcasters and for good measures I would extend it to any news service that uses the commons in any form; public right of ways, microwave bandwidth to/from satellites, for example. Reagan, who suspended the equal time requirements with an EO, enabled Fox News and talk radio to radicalize the conservatives.
