    Questions! Questions.

Brace yourselves. I intend to pick your brains until your eyes bleed. I am planning an extended trip some months in the future, and keep running into things I don't know. The only place I know I will be is California, to visit my son. It occurs to me that I use my Visa for everything, here...

    Harvard unconscious bias test

http://https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/research/registration/Register.jsp I thought this would be interesting, but the design of it gave me real problems. In the aftermath they say that they compensate for order effects, but I did it twice and both times the order in which the questions...

    Hawkey's Dead.

At 89, I can't pretend to surprise but loss, sadness, yes. He got things done. I never had a sense that he wanted power for its own sake. He loved power, and used it to make things work better for people. I wish he could have lasted a couple more days, he would have enjoyed this election.

    Ferguson Curse?

In trying to transfer a number of unnecessary Israel/Palestine derails to another thread I seem to have lost Derec's entire thread. Sorry Derec. I have reposted the OP (not very well) and trust that those who addressed the OP will remember what they said, and those who derailed will go over to...

    Suing over 9/11

The US Congress is in the process of overcoming Obama's veto on a Bill allowing people affected by 9/11 to sue Saudi Arabia. Was there ever any suggestion that the gov't of SA was complicit in these events? Will this be a one way street?

    How so?

This turned up in my inbox just now. I post it in its entirety because I think they might have a point, but my question arises in the second paragraph. Do so few Americans choose to vote that 8 million can make a massive difference? Aren't there 300 million and wouldn't more than half of...

    Dumb Questions

I Can't find the dumb questions thread. Has no-one felt the need since we've been here? Please merge, if I've just been slack. There is a woman who repeats everything I say, with a delay of about half a second. She does it every time we meet, but she doesn't do it to anyone else. I am a...

    Check this out. Fallstreak Hole.

I've never seen one before, and am a little devastated that I wasn't outside around 1pm yesterday. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-11-03/photographers-catch-rare-fallstreak-cloud-formations-in-victoria/5863482

World Heritage Committee raspberrys Abbott ...

... and it couldn't happen to a more deserving bloke. I received this broadcast email from Getup this morning. [Insert cartwheels and other indications of joyful triumph here.] Australia is unique in ever having attempted to do this, they were saying on the radio this morning. Abbott is a...

    Hoaxes

Old but good. Top Hoaxes of All Time 1. The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest In 1957 the respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this...
