Fulton County’s top prosecutor launched a wide-ranging criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to reverse his election defeat in Georgia, sending letters to state officials urging them to preserve documents related to his demand that Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger “find” enough votes to overturn the outcome.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, a Democrat recently elected to the office, sent notices Wednesday to Raffensperger, Gov. Brian Kemp, Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan and Attorney General Chris Carr asking them to keep documents that could be used as part of broad criminal investigation that included potential charges of election fraud, conspiracy and making false statements.

.At the time, legal experts said Trump could potentially be prosecuted under Georgia law that bans the solicitation of election fraud by urging Raffensperger to “find” votes to sway the outcome of the race. Anthony Kreis, a constitutional law professor at Georgia State University, said Trump “wanted to use his position of influence and authority to alter official election results.”

“The law is designed precisely to prevent this kind of undue pressure on our elected officials,” Kreis said.

New York State has already been investigating Trump for possible financial crimes, and imo, it's past time that Georgia do a criminal investigation regarding Trump's illegal attempts to pressure our Republican SOS to overturn the election.

Excellent news. We all need to drag this dangerous clown through his own slime at every opportunity. It's good for the country.

What is there to investigate? He asked for GA's results to be overturned.

It has gotten real old how flat out transcripts or recordings aren't even enough to corner this ass.

I get what you're saying.
But I think it's in the best interests of the public to hold a thorough and transparent investigation with everything out on the table for all to see. Then take appropriate action.

There is audio tape of the call! Be like shooting a cop in the Police Headquarters... and allowing the shooter to leave so you can investigate what happened. The investigation should take all of a couple days... which should have started weeks ago!

I think there's two big differences.
For one, Trump's not going anywhere. He'll be easy to find.

But mainly, it's the process. Demonstrate publicly that Trump really did it and it's really illegal and unpatriotic. Drag it out!

Otherwise, there's a powerful risk of making Trump into a martyr.

The GOP dragged out impeachment and we went from 'America's darkest day' to 'meh... who cares?'

These charges haven't even gone to a grand jury yet. It takes time to investigate criminal behavior of this type. Sure, we have seen the evidence, but before a charge can be made, more needs to be done. I'm not an attorney, nor do I have a lot of knowledge of these things, but I assume that's why it's taking so much time.

From the article:

Calling it a “matter of high priority,” Willis said the next Fulton County grand jury is set to convene in March and that “this office will begin requesting grand jury subpoenas as necessary at that time.” She added that investigators have no “reason to believe that any Georgia official is a target of this investigation.”

I hope they charge him. There is no reason to let Trump get away with such criminal behavior. Even if he's not convicted in the end, the public needs to know exactly which laws he's broken while he was president. Not everyone pays attention to politics like most of the posters on this forum do.

I know the guy who wrote this. I've known Barney Quick since the first Reagan administration.

He's the kind of principled conservative I used to associate with the GOP. He's the kind of conservative that the TeaParty Republicans are driving out of the party. He's a dyed-in-the-wool Republican.

This is the title of his blog post:

The depth of the damage Trump has done to the Republican Party, conservatism and America continues to become more clear by the day

Here's a quote:
A Republican Party whose Senators cannot uniformly vote to convict the most unquestionably unfit president in history is too rotted by cowardice and sycophancy to be rescued from its flatlined state.

Trump is destructive to this country in so many ways -- it is just astounding how corrosive his lies and ignorance have become -- the man has led to death by rioters and many, many more deaths from disease. Our reputation worldwide is in shreds. He has about a third of us doubting the integrity of our elections. That a man like this could gain the highest office our country offers and then use the tools of government to pursue his selfish ends -- that's a stain that's going to be on us for a long time. He is so transparently malevolent; I will not live long enough to understand how anyone can look at this man, listen to him, consider his demeanor as he dominates a stage, and not be repulsed. At the lies. The juvenility. The need to be worshipped. The lack of respect for others. At his core, and despite the power he held and the power he still holds over his fans, he's petty, he's just a rat. A most ratty rat. I hope what he did on the Georgia call will be prosecuted, and then there should be more prosecutions. Trump and Trumpism need to be purged.

It simply tells me that there are a lot of people just like him. Not a comforting thought.

Tom, I will need to thoroughly research the meaning and historic use of your words to ensure I have a clear understanding of your post. what do yo mean by "best" or "public"? what do you mean by a "transparent investigation" - this could mean many things... what "table"? What do yo mean by "appropriate"?

All of this needs investigation before your meaning can begin to be understood correctly. please cite quotes and examples as evidence of the historic use of these words, as well as clear and indisputable links to how you have used these words in the past. This will ensure your meaning can be understood. before such thorough investigation is performed, the post stands as incomprehensible.

While I am a staunch advocate of first amendment rights, we have to consider whether maybe it's time to outlaw the use of adjectives. You know, like "staunch" for instance.

More than 8 months since SoHy started this thread.
I bet Cheato can hardly even tell he's "under investigation".
The wheels of justice seem to be missing some spokes.

OH, he's aware.
Watch him closely.
When he starts ranting about Georgia again, it'll mean his lawyer got a phone call about producing papers or transcripts.
He spat out that 'i don't enjoy pee showers' randomly, and there's movement on a Russian oligarch...
This guy sucks at poker.
