WASHINGTON (AP) — When Republican Rep. Bill Posey of Florida ended an Oct. 21 House floor speech with a fist pump and the phrase “Let’s go, Brandon!” it may have seemed cryptic and weird to many who were listening. But the phrase was already growing in right-wing circles, and now the seemingly upbeat sentiment -- actually a stand-in for swearing at Joe Biden -- is everywhere.

UPDATE:
South Carolina Republican Jeff Duncan wore a “Let’s Go Brandon” face mask at the Capitol last week. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz posed with a “Let’s Go Brandon” sign at the World Series. Sen. Mitch McConnell’s press secretary retweeted a photo of the phrase on a construction sign in Virginia.

The line has become conservative code for something far more vulgar: “F—- Joe Biden.” It’s all the rage among Republicans wanting to prove their conservative credentials, a not-so-secret handshake that signals they’re in sync with the party’s base.
It started at an Oct. 2 NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. Brandon Brown, a 28-year-old driver, had won his first Xfinity Series and was being interviewed by an NBC Sports reporter. The crowd behind him was chanting something at first difficult to make out. The reporter suggested they were chanting “Let’s go, Brandon” to cheer the driver. But it became increasingly clear they were saying: “F—- Joe Biden.”
Trump hasn’t missed the moment. His Save America PAC now sells a $45 T-shirt featuring “Let’s go Brandon” above an American flag. One message to supporters reads, “#FJB or LET’S GO BRANDON? Either way, President Trump wants YOU to have our ICONIC new shirt.”

Separately, T-shirts are popping up in storefronts with the slogan and the NASCAR logo.
Never underestimate the GOP's ability to be childish and the Trump's propensity to grift.

Yeah, I'm sure if this happened a couple of years ago and a big crowd was yelling, "Fuck Donald Trump!" the Democrats would have taken the high road, and said, "Now, now people, please drop the "Let's go Brandon" chant as a proxy for "Fuck Donald Trump!". Its disrespectful to our President."

I think it is quite funny how we are supposed to keep politics out of sports... and NASCAR fans get all political at a race. But what else should one expect from a bunch of people who love glorified bumper cars. The movie Rollerball was wrong on what sport would be the hooting and hollering idiot fans.

It's so cringe. I see it as a self-own on whomever does it, especially when Congress members do it. Don't be a cuck, say "fuck Biden" for real if you want to say it.
Of course, this means we can start saying things like "It's Trump's Birthday!" or "Maintain eye contact, Ivanka!" whenever we feel like it, then refuse to explain the 'true meaning' behind it. They'll assume the worst. Soon, right wing 'translations' of the phrase will pepper the internet. All conflicting. So even those who glean the 'it's nonsense' truth will be just one voice shouting in the cacophony.

Then we move on to another nonsense phrase. "Where's Eric's Trophy case?" "Trump's Lost World."

NASCAR (as an organization) is notoriously, ridiculously litigious--at least they long have been.

I wonder if their attack-dog legal department is pursuing multiple infringement cases, with full damages, against all the t-shirt makers who (I'm gonna go WAY out on a limb here) didn't go through the process of securing licensing agreements with NASCAR for usage of the logo.

I'm good with the term "Supper's Ready" as a Trump / MAGA reference.

You, can't you see he's fooled you all
Yes, he's here again
Can't you see he's fooled you all?
Share his peace, sign the lease
He's a supersonic scientist
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary man
Look, look into my mouth he cries
And all the children lost down many paths
I bet my life you'll walk inside
Hand in hand
Gland in gland
With a spoonful of miracle
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary...

It's funny, I was raised to feel that adults ought to be adults, make hard decisions and sacrifices to protect their children from harm. But these days, the GOP seems to favor a model in which all the adults "act like toddlers", and the actual kids in the room are left holding the bag of social responsibility and planning for the future. I don't really get it, because we were all raised in the same society but seem to have drawn wildly different lessons from our upbringing.

Did you have this sentiment a year ago? The “pee tape” crowd suddenly cares about decency. Jebus. Hypocrisy is always funny.

As my parents used to say "If everyone jumped off a cliff, you'd jump as well?" Your whataboutism is duly noted.

And that ignores your false equivalence of the general public's vulgar behavior and the vulgar behavior of these politicians.

It's almost as if republicans are embarrassed and wish to be covert about their disdain, as if they do not wish to fully own it.

IOW, what Blastula said.

Three things:

1. I'm not the Palmer Report.

2. I also didn't write on someone's garage door in ketchup, like a fucking twelve year old with a suppressed crush.

3. Like the Palmer Report, if I do want to tell someone to go fuck themselves, I do it to their face, without any cutesy euphemisms. Or ketchup.

A "whataboutism" is not an argument. Are you endorsing this type of behavior?
