Ilhan Omar vs. Colorism

I knew before I clicked on this thread that the mere mention of Ilhan Omar would be triggering for some, but damn people. It's not like the OP held her up as some sort of paragon of virtue, get a grip.
I wasn't sure what sort of "grip" you were speaking of, so I Googled and this NSFW contraption turned up. PLEASE people; it is against TOU to wish ill on fellow TFTers.

Huh? A grip is something to grab to manipulate something, or occasionally the reverse, it grabs something. (Which I guess is the context used in that masochistic contraption.)

I cannot believe that anybody in an English-speaking country who is not ESL does not know what 'get a grip' means.

Yeah, by the 'are you fucking kidding', I mean: you think the left wing is about people 'making their own choice'.

You must be fucking kidding.

The left says not to attack people for making choices other than what you would have made.

The right attacks people for not being "normal" by their standards.

Again: you must be fucking kidding.

The left continually attacks people who make choices they don't like, including (but not limited to) leveraging the State against them.

The left attacks those who attack others. That's defense, not offense.

The left attacks anybody and everybody whose views differ from theirs. The left attacked Lil Nas X for saying he liked dick, for fuck's sake. The left attacked JK Rowling for saying women as a sex class exist, for fuck's sake. The left define any view opposed to theirs as an 'attack' on them. For fuck's sake, the left think Dave Chappelle's joke in his latest special is literally killing trans people.

And jan6, was antia..

Isn't it always convenient that 'choices they don't like' is the language rather than 'choices to put boots in faces'. It's weaseling if I ever saw it to hide odious behavior under the spun language of "choices they don't like".

QUESTIONABLE SOURCE
A questionable source exhibits one or more of the following: extreme bias, consistent promotion of propaganda/conspiracies, poor or no sourcing to credible information, a complete lack of transparency, and/or is fake news. Fake News is the deliberate attempt to publish hoaxes and/or disinformation for profit or influence (Learn More). Sources listed in the Questionable Category may be very untrustworthy and should be fact-checked on a per-article basis. Please note sources on this list are not considered fake news unless specifically written in the reasoning section for that source. See all Questionable sources.

Overall, we rate Quillette Questionable based on the promotion of racial pseudoscience, the use of poor sources, and failed fact checks.

Try harder.

FFS. You use link to an activist website and then criticize someone else for a link you imagine is bias. That's hella chutzpah.

Remember Mikael Jackson?
No. Who is that?

Tom
Surely you gest. Plastic surgery and 'whitening'. He claimed it was a medical problem.

Feeling compelled to be something other than your genetics is about as ugly as it gets.

Black women ironing their ha to make it straight.

You seem to be referring to Michael Jackson, the pop music star. But that isn't what you posted. I don't know of a Mikael Jackson. I still don't.

I'll do my best to understand misspelled words. Names require more precision if you want people to understand your point.

I have severe retinopathy. Posting can be difficult even with a spell checker. I shall endeavor to meet your exacting high literary standards.

Do you have anything to say on the topic of say blacks feeling they have to look 'white' to succeed?

Michael Jackson didn't ever say he felt the need to 'look white'. He said he had vitiligo which caused his skin to lose colour.

Back on topic, sort of.

Eh, maybe not.

The Pew Research center recently completed a study on colorism in the United States which some here might find interesting, the results of which were posted today.

https://www.pewresearch.org/hispani...opportunity-in-america-and-shapes-daily-life/

62% of Spanish-speaking respondents reported feeling that a darker skin tone was injurious to life success, and 59% saw lighter skin as an advantage.

The numbers are lower than I might have imagined, though this still constitutes a strong majority of respondents; it seems this issue is still not taken as seriously as some others relating to race and society. This isn't too surprising, though, as conversations about colorism are more likely to end up turning inward on a person's community, uncomfortable terrain for a public debate.

The rest of the poll tried to add some detail to the conversation. They asked about eight specific examples of color-based discrimination, all of which had been personally experienced by a slim majority of respondents in the aggregate but not individually. 80% percent of respondents considered their own skin tone to be "lighter" when compared to a provided scale of skin tones; the 15% who rated themselves as darker were also 10% more likely to report the specific types of incidents mentioned above. They also asked how often this topic comes up in conversation with friends and relatives, finding that it does quite rarely; on the other hand, jokes and pejorative comments about skin color are an everyday occurence. The study also found that most people consider other factors, such as education, as more important to success than skin tone.

I won't bother trying to figure WTF you're talking about.

I WILL ask YOU how YOU compare that alleged misdemeanor with the violation of quoting a reputable news source, but changing and twisting the words inside the quote block? Is it OK when a Republican does it?
