NFL

I've never been a fan of Buffalo as they were tops in the East back when I was a kid. But I did start feeling for them, sans the Rex Ryan years. Hopefully Allen is going to be alright and Bills do well this year. They stuffed the Patriots offense which had seemed unstoppable. Belichick must have busted a vein in his forehead after the 8th penalty conceded by New England. On the other hand, the Patriots have given up 13 points on defense this year in four games, 27 in all. The Bears are second in that category with 45. Granted, the Bears didn't play the Jets and Dolphins (though they did play Washington).

Oh, I forgot about that hit. Brutal, although Allen put himself in that position and lowered his helmet. I think I agree with no suspension.

It's tough to compare Bears and Pat's on defense, b/c besides the lesser competition Pat's have faced (Steelers are also very weak competition) there is the fact that the Bear's offense is weaker and that impacts points that the their defense will give up.
I just hope the Bears don't do what they did with Grossman and waste a world class defense by taking too long to realize their QB sucks and is losing them games that a solid game manager would win, such as Superbowl 41.

I predict the Dolphins will get only two victories this season, both over the Jets.

You heard it here first.

The Patriots offense is quite the understatement right now. Odd how after Week One they appeared to be invincible.

Luckily the Patriots defense has scored more points than they have given up.

And kudos to the Browns today. Mayfield executed the absolute worst shovel pass in NFL history to the wrong team and Freddie ‘I’m not the head coach next year’ goes to punt at 4th and 11. The Browns manage to commit a penalty before punting and Kitchens decides to go for it at 4th and 16.

I’d never seen a team turn the ball over on three consecutive plays until today. Congrats, Browns.

I hope the Ravens put up a better effort than that against the Pats next week.

Wait... what? The Patriots have to play teams with a winning record this year?!

They could encounter one in the playoffs, so they may as well practice.

I noticed that Patriots have the most points scored in the NFL at the moment. Many teams in the league do have a game in hand, but there are about only 2 to 3 teams that could rise above the Patriots with a win in that category. This fact is made even more impressive when one considers the Patriots offense is now kind of the weakest its been in a while. Yes, the running game has pluses, but the Pats aren't crushing it in the first half right now.

In other thoughts, Patriots opponents have a combined 12 wins at the moment. Take away the Bills, it is an average of 1 win per opponent. Two of their opponents haven't won a game yet... and yesterday, the Browns were tied as having the second best record for a Patriots opponent (2-4) this season to date.

So take the first paragraph with salt.

That's not bad, but the title for offensive futility for this week goes to the Bears who after getting 9 points out of 27 red zone chances in the first half, finished the game down by 1 after reaching the 21 yard line with 43 seconds and then taking a knee to run down the clock for a 41 yard field goal that missed. Did that team really think they should put it all on their kicker, and as though a 40 yarder is automatic?

NE has had a soft schedule but you can't really say it's deceiving, since they've been dominating. Unlike the Rams who even when they were 3-0 looked like a .500 type of team; they were winning ugly and it finally caught up with them with a vengeance.

Although I do see an eyeballed correlation with strength of schedule among the top teams, some of those teams look more legit than others.

Only have time to follow Patriots. Had no idea SF was beating up on CFL teams as well.

I'd say the Saints are looking the best seeing they have a few wins without Brees on the books.

I managed to catch some of the Miami game last night. Dear oh dear, Miami were dreadful.

And the Fins were up 14-0 in the 1st quarter.

On the plus side for Miami - they'll beat the Jets next week.

After watching them make the worst defensive call of the century last night, I believe they will endeavor to avoid scoring more points than the Jets.

Haha, you called it. The game was notable for both teams giving up a safety.

On the other side of the tracks, that NE-Bal game was entertaining. Jackson is a deadly weapon, but his career can't last long, can it? The way he toys with the rushers is funny and beautiful. Baltimore finally has a team that can score.

Patriots defense apparently can't stop running backs that can run. Granted, last year this time, the Patriots defense was a sieve and then clammed up come the playoffs. Time will tell. I missed most of the game last night, forgetting that there was a game last night. Congrats to the Ravens with a healthy win. Looks like the Pats had an opportunity, but Brady threw a deep interception that changed the tide for good.

Apparently the Patriots have to play another team that has more than 2 wins next week. The schedule is so clearly anti-New England.

With that loss, the dream of two teams from the same division getting the Byes is at risk now. :(

Meanwhile in Cleveland, Safety Whitehead gets released after making a rather awful Tweet back in response to a commentators comment on Whitehead's performance that day.

A wise rule in life, when you have hit a point where you think you are ready to tell someone how you "really feel", it is best to hit the pause button.

Jackson took too many risks last year trying to get a couple extra yards. He's taken the advice of coaches and his backup, Robert Griffin, whose career was derailed when he didn't listen, and has largely avoided tackles by running out of bounds or sliding. He's getting hit less often, and less violently, than many QBs who aren't mobile. As you saw last night, it's nearly impossible to get a full hit on him. But all it takes is one unlucky moment.

Even with all that talent, the Browns are still a rolling dumpster fire.

The Browns got super hyper by the local media. The talent bought into the hyper. They were never making the playoffs this year. The Browns weren't awful yesterday, though open field tackling was an issue. They are making progress, but it should have been expected that it'd take more time to get Cleveland to a better place. Admittedly, their coaching isn't up to par for the NFL. But still, there is plenty of room to finish the second half of the season better than 4-4.
