While the Democrats are running their dog and pony impeachment hearings, they were making sure we continue living in a police state

The the Mueller report couldn't conclude that the Trump campaign colluded with those specifically targeted with committed the hacks against the DNC...

...and we have the White House release a transcript of sorts that implicates the President of conspiring to collude with the Ukrainians for the 2020 election...

...we get lots of people, both long term employees in the Government and a guy that gave Trump $1 million for his inauguration saying this stuff has a long trail behind it.

And it is a dog and pony show.

Mr. 9/11 Was A Conspiracy sees an actual conspiracy and hand waves it away.

The Democrats re-authorized the police state surveillance Patriot Act.

All done quietly while everyone was watching shifty Schiff.

I don't remember hearing anything about this on CNN yesterday.

You're right. It's difficult to digest this. At least this extension is only for 3 months. Proper extensions go for 5 years at a time.

Allegedly there is some maneuvering in the background to explain this. Some people are claiming this extension will buy the House enough time to plan and submit a bill that makes some reforms that protect citizens more properly before the Senate has a chance to draft a clean extension bill without those reforms. The Dems don't think they have the votes to kill the bill, but they think they have the votes to water it down a bit.

I don't know if I buy it though.

Shifty Schiff - Donald Trump's name-calling

Titled Link: Patriot Act extension concealed in funding bill passed by House Democrats - World Socialist Web Site
... the so-called “progressive” block led by New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ...
Also articles like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez backs internet censorship - World Socialist Web Site and Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez use “left” demagogy to channel opposition to Trump behind Democrats - World Socialist Web Site

Amazon-led corporate purge of Seattle City Council fails - World Socialist Web Site contains "Kshama Sawant, a member of the pseudo-left Socialist Alternative group"

So both AOC and KS are right-wing by WSWS standards?

The only independent, Amash, voted against it.

The 10 Democrats who voted against it:
Blumenauer, Clarke (NY), DeFazio, Meng, Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Pressley, Tlaib, Vargas, Vela

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "Yeah that’s gonna be a no from me dog https://t.co/O6t8h6zkgs" / Twitter

Among the 3 Democratic non-voters: Tulsi Gabbard, because she was out campaigning.

Color me gobsmacked.
1) I didn't know that the PA was up for renewal. MY BAD.
2) It's stretches my credulity that 181 Republicans voted against it.

I was afraid of something like the "Patriot" act immediately upon seeing the first World Trade Center tower collapse. When the words "Department of Homeland Security" hit my ears for the first time I heard "Das Heimat". I cursed Bushbaby and all who voted for him.
Now... this is almost as bad as anything Trump has ever tried to do, and it is quite clear that the country I grew up in exists no more.

It's a budget bill, not a pure Patriot Act renewal bill so I'm sure there are some other provisions in there that the Reps don't like. ... Or the party of No is just being obstructionist on anything they can.

This might also explain some of the Dem votes too. Sometimes you have to swallow a poison pill because the alternative is worse.

Edit: I just read that most of the Reps allegedly opposed this particular bill because it didn't have Trump's 5 billion dollar border wall included.

It wasn't a bill on the PA, it was a government funding bill. The last thing republicans want to do is actually pay the bills.

Nothing meaningful is going to be done because anyone who votes that way will be crucified as being weak on terrorism.

Never mind that the Patriot act does basically nothing about terrorism.

So both AOC and KS are right-wing by WSWS standards?
Right wing....left wing. Who cares at this point? Ill give WSWS or anyone else the credit due for whenever tyranny is brought in front of the public's attention. Because such an article constitutes far more real journalism than what either CNN or Fox news is capable of. Those outfits said absolutely nothing.

Instead of focusing on right wing or left win. We should all focus on what few freedom's left we are rapidly losing! If enough people rise up against this shit, our representatives will have to listen to the people.

Among the 3 Democratic non-voters: Tulsi Gabbard, because she was out campaigning.
That is unfortunate because I would have been interested in how she would have voted.

Dude: haven't you been somewhat a fan boy of ICE? If I'm wrong, I apologize. But do you think that maybe we should those Patriot Act meanies going after terrorists and rehire them as ICE agents?!

Im actually a fan boy of the constitution. Not because it is some kind of shrine we have to worship but because it basically has a lot of common sense when it comes to protecting liberty. And I sure like liberty and freedom from tyranny. Boy do I like it a lot.

As far as terrorists go, there isnt anything in the constitution about installing a domestic police state because we are afraid of terrorism. But there is a hell of a lot in the constitution about protecting our borders against all enemies foreign or domestic.

Again. Maybe you think the constitution is hog wash and maybe you are right. But until someone thinks of something superior to the constitution in order to replace it, Im in favor of following it to the letter.

My point is that you are annoyed because the Patriot Act could potentially cause law abiding citizens to be under suspicion for terrorist acts. But law abiding Mexican Americans are often harassed by ICE agents for false suspicions. Secondly, clearly you have a better understanding of the constitution than I. Could you please quote the part in the constitution where we must protect our border? (However, please re-read my earlier post, I'm not attacking protecting the border, I complained about ICE harassing people).

But thats not it. I dont want the government to collect data period. Even if I live the pure life like mother Teresa, I dont want my data collected. It should not be the business of the government to collect information on everyone. And the constitution secures these rights of its citizens.

Who is the dog and who is the pony?
Who lied in your opinion?

I notice you did not take Harry up on his challenge to quote the part of the Constitution that says we must protect the border. While we are on the topic of the Constitution and the government collecting your data, however, I would like to direct you to Article 1, Section 2, which has something to say about collecting your data (the census).
