Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wore “brownface” make-up to a party he attended in 2001, a bombshell report has revealed.
Time Magazine obtained a photograph showing the then-29-year-old Mr Trudeau at an “Arabian Nights”-themed gala, wearing a turban and robes with his face, neck and hands darkened with brown make-up:

The photo was taken at the private school where he was teaching in the spring of 2001, Time reported.
...
Mr Trudeau has apologised for the picture, telling reporters: “I dressed up in an Aladdin costume and put makeup on. I shouldn’t have done it. I should have known better, but I didn’t and I’m really sorry.”
He also admitted to donning blackface on a separate occasion in high school, and said he was “disappointed and pissed off” in himself for having done it.
Asked by a reporter about any other instances in which he is concerned he was racist, Mr Trudeau said: “I’ve always — and you’ll know this — been more enthusiastic about costumes than is sometimes appropriate.”
The photo sparked an uproar on Twitter, with many deeming the liberal leader a hypocrite and saying he should step down:

The original photo also caused fury because he had his hand on the chest of the woman in front of him.

The timing could not be worse for the Canadian leader, who began his re-election campaign on September 11 engulfed in scandal over his involvement in dropping corruption charges against a large Canadian engineering firm.
Last year, the Canadian leader was accused of cultural appropriation and “overdoing it” on a trip to India, in which he donned grand, ceremonial outfits.

The woke left usually attempts to destroy anybody who has made such transgressions. I imagine though that Trudeau will emerge mostly unscathed.

It's ok if you are a Democrat Liberal.

In general though, I do not understand why wearing darkening makeup as part of a costume is considered "racist". It's just ridiculous.

Well you not understanding something doesn’t exactly preclude its relevance.
I understand people are upset by it (except when Trudeau does it for some weird reason). I don't understand why. That is, I know the stated reasons why, but those reasons are stupid.

It gives the pasty white basement dwelling keyboard warriors something to do I guess.

This won't take down Trudeau, but he may go down. There is an election set for next month. Canada may bring the Conservative Party back. But do keep in mind that the conservatives in Canada are actually to the left of the Democrats in the US, so it isn't as scary as it sounds.

My initial impression is that it doesn't look that way. It seems that the only people who are actually offended by it are the ones who are pretending to be offended for partisan purposes and most everyone else is just kind of annoyed that it's being brought up as an actual "issue". I don't see this as being a factor at all.

Nor do I. My only point was that Trudeau may go down anyway, for other reasons since an election has been called.

Ya, and Elizabeth May might become Prime Minister. Both seem equally likely. The worst that Trudeau really needs to worry about is that he might have to pair up with Singh in a minority government.

Odd timing that these are found and published before a snap election. One would think that there are people being paid to uncover these photos.

The left has cancelled Trudeau long ago, he's a neoliberal stooge. Basically Canada's version of Bobby Newport from Parks and Recreation

Well, this would explain why he's coasting to an easy re-election.

Lack of left wing candidates and corresponding mobilization in the Canadian public? Yeah, explains it pretty well I'd say

There are literally three different left wing parties running in this election, all of which have candidates in every riding across the country and voter turnout in the last election was around 70%, so that seems fairly mobilized. I don't know where it is that you're getting your information from, but it doesn't appear to be a place which provides information.

The NDP was actually polling very well into the previous election, and the NDP is generally considered left of the Liberals (if that is still accurate). The NDP ended up underperforming, but definitely the left-wing parties are expanding, not contracting, which is kind of how the Conservatives were in charge for quite a while with Harper, as the liberals were splitting their votes. Which, once again shows that more is sometimes not better.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my experience is that the left doesn't like Trudeau because he supports genocidal extraction of oil from lands inhabited by the Wetʼsuwetʼen, among other horrible positions and policies he has presided over
