What do you get from watching movies/TV?

When I am watching, I am often placing myself in the shoes of the various characters and trying to determine what I would hypothetically do. What are the wise and unwise decisions? What are the moral and immoral decisions? What feelings would I have if [X] happened? So I end up learning a lot...

Have you ever watched a movie/TV show 2x in 1 day?

My mom recalled that she was sick and in bed one day when she watched Pretty Woman for the 1st time. She loved it so much that she ended up watching it a total of 3x in a single day. It is still her favorite movie.

Have you ever watched a movie/TV show 2x in 1 day?

Recently I heard someone describe how they loved a movie so much that they watched it twice the same day. I cannot recall ever watching a movie 2x in 1 day. Even an episode of a TV show. Have you ever done that?

    Citing proverbs vs genetic fallacies

Sorry, I still have trouble understanding much of what you are trying to say. You have used the term "moralizing" twice, but still have not defined it. You seem to speak ill of the phrase "self policing thoughts". So we should not police our thoughts? Agreed. That was never even an issue. My...

    Citing proverbs vs genetic fallacies

Here is an example. If it was not someone prominent like Tyson saying the above, it would not get the heavy promotion that it does. It is a common sentiment among atheists though, including all of us who are very non-famous. We just gravitate towards the evaluation of claims based on who said it...

    Citing proverbs vs genetic fallacies

What is "moralizing"? I am trying to think of the most helpful approach overall. Should I not? If we continue in the habit of citing the author of expressions, then we would develop the bad tendency to think that the author of expressions determines their merit. That would be committing the...

    Citing proverbs vs genetic fallacies

I am not clear on the meaning or points you are making, sorry.

    Citing proverbs vs genetic fallacies

Think of any proverbial sayings or powerful expressions you heard in life that have inspired your attitude. Now think of the person who said those. When we publish those remarks in public or even just think about them privately, should it matter who the actual person was that said them? Does...

Have you written your own medical profile?

A few days ago I asked my neurologist to give a helpful description of my epilepsy for the purpose of this medical profile, and he really came through for me today. Very cool. One is more layperson-oriented and the other is geared more for other clinicians. Though even the lay version seemed...

Have you written your own medical profile?

Right now mine is in a very early draft as a Word document. It is almost 20 pages, which sounds excessive, but it actually will be organized well and is NOT small nonstop text. Instead a single page will be devoted to things like: My emergency contacts My neurologist contact info My...

Have you written your own medical profile?

Has anyone written a comprehensive medical profile of themselves? It is a handy reference for yourself and also for your doctors during regular visits or even emergencies. Includes contacts of all your doctors. Your medications. Your detailed medical history. Family’s abbreviated medical...

Do you have any very religious figures that you admire?

Despite having irrational religious beliefs, you may still admire them for their intelligence, morality, courage, etc. I admire MLK, Jr. and would like to read more on him someday. He seemed a great leader and very moral.

    Surge protectors

We bought a new TV recently and want to protect it with strong surge protection. We have the option of buying one brand new. Let's say that we want it to be able to handle 900 joules. Instead of getting a single surge protector that handles that amount, would it work just as well to use several...

    Politics and personal finances

Thanks. Given how new I am to personal finances and investing, and how I have had Roth IRA's recommended to me by professionals, I am likely to start placing some money there in the fairly near future. Contributions (not interest earned) can be withdrawn at any time without penalty.

    Politics and personal finances

Yes I do plan on getting a fiduciary. I was just asking also how others have factored in the state of the U.S. political systems and global environment. Do you not take that into account at all? Do you factor that in? What does your fiduciary do? I am looking for general ideas on what people do...
