Ok, it's a broad brush and might not apply to every single one of them.
This is specifically about talking heads saying "Trump has endorsed [candidate X], who believes the 2020 election was stolen.

BULLSHIT.

Responsible reporting would be "who SAYS the 2020 election was stolen" (which is the evidenced fact), or "who purports to believe..." (also in evidence).
I don't think there is a single one of those jokers who actually believes it.

Sorry for junking up the poli forum... probl'ly just as appropriate in "rants".

This is accurate. Almost no one in these elected positions believes the election was stolen. They believe that saying the election was stolen is a cash cow for their campaign. A better way to report it would be:

"Trump has endorsed [candidate X], who publicly asserts the widely debunked and baseless 2020 election claims repeatedly made by Trump everywhere except in a courtroom."

The bold and stricken parts are adjectives and opinion that I don’t really appreciate and don’t accept as information even if I agree. Don’t need that from “journalists” - it’s what places like this are for.

To be fair, though, they should be clear to point out that the claims asserted are false, because they are, and this has been proven in several courts several times.

Why shouldn't this apply to every news story everywhere about everything people utter? We never have access to anyone else's beliefs, only our own.

Twenty years ago, I would have agreed with the "almost no one in these elected positions believes the election was stolen", but in our current world where bat shit crazy is accepted without batting an eyelash, I don't know.

I saw a post on the social media today promoting some new music or show from the (formerly Dixie) Chicks. About 19 years ago they were pilloried for making mildly critical comments on stage about Bush. Their career was tanked, people smashed their CDs, and they got death threats for "disrespecting our President." The comments in the social media story? People are apparently still very, very mad at them.

I wonder...how many of the people who ran over the Chicks' CDs with their pickup truck back then for "disrespecting our President" now have "Let's Go Brandon" stickers on their truck?

I'd say you could do a Venn Diagram, but it'd just look like a single circle.

You didn't see my biased version. :D

I'm thinking more of a target than a circle.

Were you in Bay Area radio at the time? I was in a rural CO station cluster, managing production and holding down the morning drive time on the Country station. There were calls for and against the Chix, but I was surprised to note the enthusiasm of the callers who supported them. Go figure.

Part of what made that whole thing so surreal was that I thought criticizing the government was about as All American as apple pie.

ETA ~Also, if you want to do damage to a band like that burning CDs you've already paid for doesn't do nearly as much as selling them on EBay for a nickel each. That would really put a dent in sales.~

I recall one of the Chix making that exact point. "Burn 'em up - we'll make more!"

Arizona. Also production manager. We supported them and refused to stop playing their music when the (Clear Channel) station across the street did, and there were people who supported them. Those that didn't were far more vocal and quite a bit more threatening. Literally, people threatened to come to the station if we didn't stop. We also took a hit in the ratings and eventually did stop.

When "Not Ready to Make Nice" came out, we played it, and if anything the reaction was even more vicious.

We never got the threats, just insults and the "how could you ...?" stuff. But it was more than balanced by accolades for our "courage" (which was how some perceived our station policy of political apathy). The owner of our cluster had a bunch of stations around Omaha and surrounding States, and as an independent, was in constant conflict with Clear Channel et al, so we had his blessing to do whatever. The person in charge of playlists was an extreme political cynic and non-participant who was more into God than politics. So if the minimal leeway allowed us on air didn't cause us to insult God or Christianity, he didn't care either.

I put together a montage of sound bites from some people talking about "freedom" and agreeing to disagree (including McCain) that actually got kudos from the top brass at CBS, and they were behind each station making their own choice (unlike Clear Channel), but I think our local management was thinking it wasn't a hill we were literally ready to die on, plus the ratings hit and I'm sure there was some research involved in our decision to back away from their music. The station re-branded in 2012, there was a lot of staff turnover, and the music and personalities skewed younger, so when we eventually did bring back some Chicks music it was definitely in the "gold" category and didn't cause much of a stir.

I think you are being generous in assuming that elected people and people running for elected positions are significantly smarter than those who do believe that the election was stolen.
