Assholes - recognizing them and dealing with them

People have a wide range of definitions of assholery. Some see an asshole as someone who holds and strongly defends opinions or ideas directly contradictory to their own... This is common among people with strong political positions who see anyone in an opposing political party as assholes...

    Tsunami

Eruptions at sea turn out to be much worse. The initial eruption opens the magma chamber to the sea which rushes in and creates one hell of a steam eruption. The 1883 Krakatoa eruption is an example. A very small scale example can be seen if you look at the results of a water heater explosion...

Hey, it's hard to dispute such a pithy argument.

That is an amazing video. That was one hell of a shock wave to distort the image so much through lensing.

I saw that the surfers had flocked to the beaches in Hawaii.

    Animals That Speak

My understanding is that mace works damn well as a grizzly repellant, pepper spray not so much. However politicians have outlawed the use of mace. Perhaps those politicians decided that grizzlies need to eat and that maybe the bears occasionally like spicy food.

It is more that the behavior of attacking defensively anything they perceive as a possible threat to them or their cubs has been chosen for. Also, even though humans are not on their normal menu, they can perceive us as a meal if they are hungry enough.

    Climate Change(d)?

Or you could go to Home Depot or Lowe's and pick up a load of 2x4s for firewood while you are getting the rope or cord for your well bucket.

    Leaving The Solar System

Being able to detect the dust would be of little use at those velocities because there would be no time to avoid it unless it is an extremely long range detection. An ablation shield in front of the ship to absorb the impact (or a Star Trek "force field") would be needed.

Firearms and home invasion/defence, split from Rants

I remember the reporting of the goings on in Seattle during the summer of 2020. There was definitely selective reporting. CNN and MSNBC both reported that it was peaceful demonstrations. FOX reported that that there were riots. They were both right in what they reported but they both omitted the...

That is my understanding of bears too. I have camped in several national parks and national forests across the country with my road-trip and camping partner. They wanted to go camping in Glacier National Park so I checked the park's literature to find what there was to see and found a statement...

Firearms and home invasion/defence, split from Rants

Dude, all news outlets skew their reporting. Most of the skewing is in selecting which events they want to report and which they refuse to report. One outlet may want to an image of society where everything is sunshine and lollypops so refuse to show any news that may shock their audience...

Are you saying that they should not report such things or that those people were not killed?

Firearms and home invasion/defence, split from Rants

It isn't just a U.S. thing. There are sociopaths around the world. Even Australia has cases where the "burglar" breaks in intentionally to confront the residents to get whatever it is they are after. As I said above, there are burglaries and then there are home invasions. I linked this Sydney...

Firearms and home invasion/defence, split from Rants

There is a big difference between home burglaries and home invasions. Burglars don't want to be seen so generally break in when the residents are not home. Residents are seldom injured as the burglars want to escape if seen. Home invasions are generally by sociopaths who want to confront and...

As I said, the percentage of the population that are seriously injured victims of home invasions is only a small percentage of the total population, as are the percentage of the population that are killed in an auto accident. I don't doubt that you have no first hand knowledge of a serious home...

    Animals That Speak

That would be Timothy Treadwell. Not only he but also his girlfriend were eaten by grizzly bears. He was a animal rights activist, film documentary maker, and writer who convinced his girlfriend that bears were not dangerous if you understood them so persuaded her to go with him to film...
