What music are you listening to right now? (Warning: Lotsa videos)

I was listening to Ringo last night.

    Federal Air Regulation No 1

What experience do you have on this subject? Are you a commercial pilot? Assuming you are talking about pilots flying under a commercial license, they are trained to use Autoland if the equipment they fly offers this feature. This training would be required to get their type rating. Most...

Biden administration announces partial student loan forgiveness

The government is not forgiving debt because they feel sorry for the debtors. They are doing it because forgiving debt related to education is beneficial to society. That is the primary role of government - to make the lives of the community better. Wrong. The value of the education appears...

Biden administration announces partial student loan forgiveness

Asimov wrote a story called Profession (in the book Nine Tomorrows) that is staged in the far future where humans have the ability to educate people almost instantaneously by downloading information directly to their brains. Children show up at their local education center twice, once for...

    Federal Air Regulation No 1

Pilots flying IFR today still rely on ground based VORs for navigation, with GPS and INS (if they have it) as secondary sources. Approaches using ground based ILS and glideslope are considered precision approaches (there are different categories depending on the nature of the hardware on the...

But seriously. Those housing prices! How do you do it?

I was talking to a friend in California who recently "upgraded" his home. He bought his last house 10 years ago for about $500K and he still owes $330K on it. He is renting that out now to cover the mortgage. His new home costs $2.6M, he put 5% down, and it comes with monthly mortgage payments...

    Close call at Paris airport

It is a stressfull job at the bigger airports, even with all the electronic aids available today. Someone made a movie called Pushing Tin which deals with the lives of a group of people working TRACON (Traffic Radar Approach Control) into the NY airspace, and it was very realistic. Not everyone...

    Are billionaires rich enough yet?

Yes, you should. I don't have a problem with people reaping the rewards of their skills, hard work and vision. But to believe that a single human being has provided services worth 300 billion dollars is absurd.

Asteroid Mining and Space Elevators (split from Are billionaires rich enough yet?)

I was obviously speculating. I don't know that we will have evolved the technology to become a spacefaring species in 50 years exploiting asteroids for resources and energy. But if our descendants do take that step, and at some they will have to in order to survive, even if it is many millions...

    Close call at Paris airport

Modern jets are incredibly complicated, but in reality, flying a modern jet is less complicated than flying a twin-engine Cessna from the 60's or 70's about 98% of the time, that is, until something goes wrong. Pretty much everything on the modern airplane is automated and computer controlled...

What music are you listening to right now? (Warning: Lotsa videos)

Picked this up at Record Store Day in April and will be putting it on the table tonight. Its probably cut from a digital source, but never heard this title before and I don't have any other copies to compare too.

    Are billionaires rich enough yet?

I liked Don't Look Up. Cloaked in a heavy veneer of satire as it is, there is kernel of truth to the movie that is hard to ignore.

Asteroid Mining and Space Elevators (split from Are billionaires rich enough yet?)

I predict that in about 50 years when we have found ways to mine asteroids in space, a new class of trillionaires will emerge that will make our billionaires today look like paupers in comparison. And this will be a very exclusive club with members who have the billions today to fund research...

    Ministry Of Truth being implemented

He understands that not ALL speech is protected. Which you apparently have a hard time wrapping your head around.

He seems to better understand how the First Amendment works than you do, apparently.

Vanden Bossche warning - Please tell your government

Yeah, the guy on Market-Ticker is the authority we should be listening to! I have clearly been listening to the wrong people and I stand corrected.

Vanden Bossche warning - Please tell your government

The mass vaccinations have saved tens of millions of lives, by dramatically reducing the odds of having a severe outcome to the virus. Just look at the data. You think the scientists working on the problem don't know what this veterinarian claims to know?

Vanden Bossche warning - Please tell your government

No content in his response as to how the Cell study debunks that article, but he sure knows how to do the Ctrl-V magic.

What music are you listening to right now? (Warning: Lotsa videos)

I was listening to the recent UHQR reissue of Are You Experienced on AP's Clarityvinyl last night. At $125 it is not inexpensive, but this is the best pressing of the album I have heard, and it will easily be worth three times that a year from now once they sell out.

Roe v Wade is on deck

A fetus is not a baby. You yourself call it a fetus in order to distinguish it from a premature baby that has been delivered.
