Maybe we need a mega-JustAnotherSenselessShooting thread

Four people are dead and four others injured after a shooting at a Waffle House in Tennessee early Sunday morning.

Nashville police said six people were shot, including the four who died, and two others were also injured in the incident at about 3:30 a.m. local time on Sunday in Antioch, Tennessee.

Sounds like another case of a mentally ill person in possession of a firearm. Nothing really new here. Move along...

Only thing to stop a bad guy with a gun is a brave person who is able to seize a non-guaranteed moment to wrestle the gun away.

Thank goodness the cops hadn’t gotten there yet and shot the black guy who ended the attack.

The police cannot prevent things like this.

The only thing that can prevent things like this is the absence of firearms.

Looks like a racially motivated crime with a black hero.

Thank god for young black men.

So apparently he had tried to get into the White House last year because he needed to speak with Trump. He had the ‘right’ to due to being a “sovereign citizen”. He was arrested and had his guns taken away. The guns were eventually given to his father, who gave them back to his mentally ill son.

James Shaw Jr. has said he doesn't want to be called a hero. But let's review how he's spent the past two days, and you be the judge.

Early Sunday morning he stopped a massacre, wrestling an AR-15 away from a gunman who had just shot at least six people in an Antioch Waffle House and almost certainly would have shot more.

Shortly after that, he started a GoFundMe to raise money for the victims of the shooting and their families. And as of this writing it's raised more than $90,000 $110,000.

Shaw, a 29-year-old Nashville native and graduate of Tennessee State University who has a four-year-old daughter, also visited two shooting victims who are still in the hospital while he was there to receive more treatment yesterday.

Today, the state legislature will honor Shaw with a resolution sponsored by Rep. Brenda Gilmore and the rest of the Nashville delegation. The resolution reads in part: “If a hero is ‘a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character,’ then James Shaw, Jr., is a hero twice over, for he has demonstrated both his courage and character in a manner few could ever attempt to emulate.”

There are a few truly good people left in this world

The State of Tennessee honors this man who helped save lives that were put into danger thanks to Tennessee's and Illinois's ridiculous gun ownership laws, and most specifically the NRA who has opposed almost all laws that tries to deal with withholding gun ownership to people with mental health illnesses.
