Adam Lanza's first victim will pay the damages for the rest of them.

A daddy that appears to have abandoned the family some time ago.

The son is still the rightful inheritor, but they left him nothing?

Yea, that's awful. He's going to have rely on himself and earn a living.

If you're one of the working poor and even if you're not, having some extra money or property come in is always a great help.

If it is her home owners insurance that is paying the claim as mentioned up thread then he can still inherit from her property, etc. I don't know that he had much of a relationship with his brother or mother since the divorce. It is a tragic situation all around but the least tragic part is if the surviving adult sson cannot inherit as much money.

Don't know, I'm not the kid. For all we know, he might have wanted to inherit the property so he could sell it and put the money in a trust for his retirement or his kids' college fund.

We don't know that he was expecting to inherit anything at all from his mother's estate. Given her relatively young age when she was murdered, and the surviving son's age, it's unlikely that he had given a lot of thought to what he would inherit from his mother. Given that his brother was disabled because of serious mental health issues, it may be that it was set up that the mother's estate would provide for the disabled brother. Since that brother was the murdere and is dead, it doesn't matter.

Normally any financial obligations against an estate are fulfilled before the assets are dispersed to any heirs.

I really understand how nice it would be to inherit a substantial estate after the death of a parent or parents. Most people don't get that. I didn't and never expected to but don't begrudge a nice inheritance to people with more family wealth.

I have children who are now young adults. I have told them that there won't be much of an inheritance. Depending on when I die and under what circumstances, and whether their father/my husband is still living, there might be a decent chunk of money--or there might be nothing. I owed my kids the best upbringing and best education we could provide. Anything else is just extra.

Too bad he didn't shoot the lawyers going after Bushmaster.

What is this crazy talk, Loren? Bushmaster is just a piece of bastard killing technology. These things really have no place in a civilized world. Keep making them and the world remains as it is...polarized and with all kinds of nuts clinging to guns, fearful that their true love will be taken from them.

Going after Bushmaster is simply a hunt for deep pockets. The guy who made the tool that was used so often gets the blame and almost never deserves it.

In a world full of bastards, bastard killing technology is often useful, and occasionally essential.

Without it, the world would now be dominated by Nazis, Japanese Imperial Militarists and Fascists.

If we ever achieve a civilised world, then we can divest ourselves of such technologies; but if you think you are already there, you are living in fantasyland.

Of course, such technologies would, in a civilised world, be unavailable to civilians. But that's a whole other argument - and that they are available to civilians in your country is a strong indication that the civilised world you imagine doesn't yet exist.

AR-15, when you must absolutely kill every child in the room.

225, too little killing power to hunt deer, too much to hunt smaller animals. A caliber and velocity tuned to killing humans.
