Agents of SHIELD *** SPOILERS ***

I thought I was a fan, but had no idea this was going on:

That explains a lot. If the producers of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D had put half as much effort into the show as the dubsmash challenge, it could have been an awesome.

Hey, it turns out that this show is still on and wasn't cancelled a couple of years ago.

I learned something today. Not something that I cared about, but still something.

Well, at the end of the most recent episode in a season that had become increasingly dull, it looks like Daisy-Skye is getting her powers back while still in the Virtual reality world. Things may get a little less dull.

So I took a break from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D for a while, and just caught up (excluding today's episode). Meanwhile I wasted time on seasons 1-2 of Flash. I figured Flash was paced faster, and had more humour and better dialogue, but seeing Shield now is an eye-opener. It's actually pretty good for network tv. Okay sure it could be even better but it has much better plots than the DC superhero shows, and the action sequences are pretty amazing. Like this one:

Starts off with a terminator reference, ends in really high-quality special effects slo-mo scene (ok if you ignore the last five seconds). Finally it feels like I'm watching this show because I enjoy it, not just because I have to for fear of losing my marvel fan club license.

SHIELD is, in my opinion, simply the better show by far. This isn't to say that Flash is bad by any means - it's fast paced, as you say, and it just wallows in it's comic book feel. That's important, when many people compliment movies for "not feeling like a comic book movie".

But it's hard to remember sometimes that this season of SHIELD *started* with Ghost Rider. I've always found it's storylines simply better than Flash's.

As I said earlier, the whole point of the show is to slowly turn Daisy into a badass.

She started out an idealistic sweetheart, and little by little she's becoming more like Melinda May than Melinda herself. Only with terrifying superpowers.

So, just saw the most recent episode. I didn't realize it before but...

... the Russian dude is M.O.D.O.K. Well played.

How long have the dropped clues about it that I just kept missing?

I stopped watching it when they started blasting Fox News. It was a pretty good show up until then.

Renewed for season five.

I've missed it too until your post. Have to rewatch and check more carefully.

So, they make one joke about Fox News, and that ruins the entire show for you? Even though the joke was in character for Mack, who is a black agent, to make?

Well...

They can drop all the clues they want, but until they turn him into a giant floating head, it's kind of hard to see him as M.O.D.O.K.

Those weren't jokes. And yes, those kinds of comments in any TV show or movie will completely ruin it for me. Those kinds of comments, from any group, are things I absolutely despise and loathe.

It is my own personal view that a show should just be for entertainment purposes, not interjecting one's own political views into it.

They are incredibly ignorant things to do.

But, any more would derail the thread, of which I was not trying to do. So let's get back on track.

AFAIK, there was only one joke, and it was Mack making a comment to the effect that he was shocked when he learned his mother watched Fox News. Perhaps there were more references of which I am unaware. You can inform me if that is indeed the case and you care to do so.

Comics in general, and Marvel comics in particular, are often very political in nature. This is a show based on Marvel comics, so it is not unexpected that political issues will arise. I don't have a problem with entertainment being connected to reality, and in reality politics touches nearly everything.

They are incredibly ignorant things to do.

That is your prerogative, but if you would like to continue to discuss the issue, I am here.

You know, if Joss Whedon wants to make jabs at a media outlet owned by 20th Century Fox, I think he is completely justified considering how his work has been treated by them in the past.

How dare you suggest that it's ok to criticize FOX? That's the same thing as committing white genocide!!!!! [/Rightist]

They haven't said it explicitly yet, but...if the Russian turns out to be M.O.D.O.K., I would not be shocked. They certainly have room to do it, now that they're getting renewed again...

More the fact that FOX fucked Whedon over with Firefly, then Dollhouse, I could see him being a little sour about it. I don't really blame him for that.
