Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez vs. Mike Huckabee

But that was the point of the speech. It is hard to accomplish something when people are ambivalent or disinterested in it. When people think there is a good chance of reaching an 'impossible' goal, then it is easier to get them to work for it, to actually accomplish it.

She should wait until she accomplishes something before she talks about what is necessary to accomplish something.

Until then just do it.

She has my support already.

What she needs to do is expand her support.

Unter: I would leave the politics to the politicians if I were you. You are particularly ill-suited. Hopefully, you won't take offense to that. Many would consider it a compliment.

That is a comment without content.

Where am I wrong?

Winning elections is meaningless.

Actually changing something is an accomplishment.

And not change just for the sake of change.

Real productive change, like Social Security and Medicare and what should be next, first rate world leading Universal medical insurance for all citizens.

I think it may have escaped you there could be more than one idiot.

Here's a typical sort of article one can find on a conservative site. I think they are genuinely delighted to have this woman talking as much as possible.

I can never thank enough the Democratic voters of New York's 14th congressional district for giving us Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the young Latina who stunned politicos by beating powerful Democrat Joe Crowley in the primary. Ocasio-Cortez's win was greeted with enthusiasm by the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party, who hailed her as a rising star and a champion for democratic socialism.

But since then Ocasio-Cortez has been a gaffe-generating gift to her opponents. First she completely whiffed on a question about Israel in an interview with PBS, even straight up admitting "I am not the expert on geopolitics on this issue." She earned a "Pants on Fire" rating from Politifact for the same interview, when she claimed that unemployment was down because people were working multiple jobs. In her next interview she completely flip-flopped on her response on the Israel question to please the left. She responded to the critics of the first interview by accusing them of being members of the alt-right (they weren't) and angrily accused her former primary opponent Crowley of secretly trying to mount a third-party run (he wasn't).

This was in a span of three days.

This is not "fear", it's "delight".

Wow. Hate, fear, insecurity, ridicule. Standard Republicanism.

Why do you think the republican reaction continues to be so juvenile?

"...young Latina who stunned politicos by beating powerful Democrat Joe Crowley..."

How about instead, "...powerful lady who stunned politicos by beating old white male Democrat Joe Crowley?"

Is terrible political advice. Leave the politics to the politicians. At the very least, you have a terrible track record here of garnering support for your positions. That doesn't mean your positions are wrong, just that you aren't a good politician.

I wish these Republican assholes would leave the woman alone. She isn't experienced, but I think she means well. She needs to learn her way around before she touts her success, but these old white Republicans are really making fool of themselves by attacking a young, inexperienced Congress woman. Don't these assholes have more better things to do? I guess not. They remind me of children picking on the new kid in the room.

Meaning well doesn't mean she's competent. She doesn't appear to be.

I didn't know that Sara Huckleberry-Sanders was Mike's daughter. I thought it was just coincidence. She's not also related to Bernie Sanders, is she?

If she just sits in the back and is quiet and tries to get things done from there, she will accomplish little. She lays out a loud and noisy program that lays out a progressive program that excites people tired of the old ways and will result in action. This is how she expands her support. Throwing down the gauntlet in no uncertain terms. No "low energy" Alexandia here. And what she has been doing is working. Just elected and she is setting the agenda. Framing the debate as to what we should be doing as a party. And as a nation.

She should try to excite people with her plans. Prove she has real plans.

But not talk about how historic she is or what great victories she has won.

She has done neither of those things.

No! It must be "Female human won primary election against male human"!

I see no issue at all pointing out that she's Latina (or rather, Hispanic), or that Crowley was the third-ranking dem in the House (electing her meant giving up quite a lot of potential benefits in m earmarks and the like).

She'll do fine against Huckabee's pissy jokes, I'm sure.

She reminds me a lot of FDR, she's quick on her feet
Ahem?

I should add that the republican mindset needs enemies. It's just part of their identity. Without enemies they don't know whether to shit or wind a watch.
Democrats are not that much different in that regard. Don't tell me the way they view anybody to the left of them is not viewing them as enemies.

Compared to POTUS who is neither competent nor mean well she is a big improvement.

She does indeed talk about her plans. Try here.

And her plans seem to have the Faux talking heads spinning around and around.

She is clearly green. Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee hasn't been in politics for over a decade and his last big thing was awarding an anti-Constitutional religious zealot in Kentucky with praise and attention.

Wow. Hate, fear, insecurity, ridicule. Standard Republicanism.

Why do you think the republican reaction continues to be so juvenile?

Yeah, they not only say she's an idiot, they document it with multiple examples. "Fear" is the only possible explanation for this.

But the good news is there's no need for agreement on their emotional state as we all can agree on one thing: we want to see this woman get as much attention as possible. She should be the voice of the Democrat party.

Let's have her deliver the state of the union rebuttal. Let's have her on all the sunday talk shows. Let's make her speaker of the house. When she's old enough let's have her run for President. Maybe before.

Yeah, they not only say she's an idiot, they document it with multiple examples. "Fear" is the only possible explanation for this.

Problem is, they always flub their "examples", exactly like Huckabee did in the OP's example. Suspiciously like how Hillary Clinton supposedly said that she wanted to put coal miners out of work - when in reality, she was stressing the need to bring in training and new jobs to areas where coal miners lived. So yeah, fear is the big reason for this.

(Also reminds me of those supposedly scary lists of her proposals that Fox News would put up. Oh no, healthcare for all! Aid for seniors! Free public colleges like we used to have!)

When she's old enough let's have her run for President.

A gem of reality embedded in a mountain of bedrock fear and denial. Nice.
Of course she'll be the same person in 14 years that she is today. 14 years in Congress never really changed anyone, right?
