Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez vs. Mike Huckabee

I guess Derec is afraid of leftist chicks.

It's like me saying, "It's stupid to call a police officer a swear when he pulls you over for speeding."
No, it's like a police officer saying that. It is at the very least a thinly veiled threat.

She also has a very thin skin. It is perfectly ok for a citizen of the United States to criticize elected officials. Those elected officials threatening said citizens for exercising their 1st amendment rights is unamerican.

AOC:

Donald Trump Jr. 'dogs' Ocasio-Cortez, so she reminds the president's son of her subpoena power

His girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, responded to AOC:
Did you just threaten to subpoena someone for criticizing you? As a lawyer and former prosecutor I find this deeply troubling.

Given that the Trumps are basically a crime family, it does seem like a bad idea for him to antagonize members of Congress. That's something that most people in his position would realize immediately, but since this is a particularly stupid crime family, and AOC will have no direct subpoena authority anyway, I see no problem with her responding in a way he'll actually understand.

A right-wing journalist recently tweeted: "There is a new standard in Congress. Bitches will subpoena you if you troll them."

AOC responded
Wow! A Republican journalist calling me the B-word as he deliberately misinterprets my statement.

Awesome job. How many female leaders have you covered in your career? I’m sure your coverage was very fair and not subconsciously biased at all. https://twitter.com/freedom_moates/status/1071136804789727232
He has since deleted that tweet.

She has a lot to learn. Rule 1: don't do anything trump would do.

Well, there would have to be some exceptions.

Well, that's the problem, now isn't it. threats to misuse power are the very least of what Dolt 45 and family do wrong ("Lock her up!" comes to mind, but then they actually pushed to prosecute Hillary Clinton for...something), but a 29 year old junior representative returns shot and they all scream like she threw hot grease on them. I find it hilarious.

AOC:
Right now Freshman members of Congress are at a “Bipartisan” orientation w/ briefings on issues.

Invited panelists offer insights to inform new Congressmembers‘ views as they prepare to legislate.

# of Corporate CEOs we’ve listened to here: 4
# of Labor leaders: 0
Rashida Tlaib:
Gary Cohen, former CEO Goldman Sachs addressing new members of Congress today: "You guys are way over your head, you don't know how the game is played."

No Gary, YOU don't know what's coming - a revolutionary Congress that puts people over profits.
Josh Olson:
AOC's twitter feed gives a fantastic insight into the entire process, and makes you realize how disconnected we usually are from what our reps are up to. Transparency is a great thing. https://twitter.com/Ocasio2018/status/1070735202031423488
Brian Merchant:
I cannot say enough how inspiring and illuminating it is to watch these women heading to the Hill and immediately puncturing gaping holes in the gilded, ossified norms that have prevented Congress from working for the people.
The article then quotes the list of speakers. As AOC tweeted, 4 CEO's and no labor leaders.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) | Twitter -- she quotes some others on this orientation issue.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal ‏@RepJayapal
This is exactly why I chose not to attend this same orientation session when I came in as a new Member. I think I was in a tiny minority. It looked to me like it was alot of corporate brainwashing. Sorry, @Ocasio2018, I should have warned you.
AOC:
Whoah - looks like our Congressional orientation had a lot more lobbyists than we thought. This is not okay. Lobbyists are not impartial - they are employed to influence legislation. 60+ incoming members were listening to panelists without knowing which were hired lobbyists.

This Harvard session has been going on for new Congressmembers since the 70s. This year we heard things like “the $2T tax cut was great” and “$15 wage is a bad idea.” No labor reps were there. Was this a multi-decade, pro-corporate lobbyist project the entire time?
Jeff Stein @JStein_WaPo
I got a copy of Harvard's 2014 orientation schedule, & it looks very similar At least 8 lobbyists are listed as panelists, several listed w/o disclosing ties to lobbying firms CEOs of Xerox, American Express were there -- no apparent labor leaders/activists

2 lobbyists who spoke in 18 also spoke in 14. Dan Meyer, president of the Duberstein Group, gave a talk on "building relationships" on the Hill to freshman lawmakers 4 years ago. (Meyer also spoke in 16.) Some of Duberstein's clients: https://www.washingtonpost.com/busi...-skeptical-democrats-confront-lobbyists-ceos/
He showed a screenshot listing several big businesses and their corporate logos.

Also from AOC:
I spent a lot of time this week listening to Corporate CEOs tell us what’s not possible. So this morning I went to speak with thousands of New York nurses about what is. Thank you @nynurses for giving me the honor of speaking with you this morning! Your fight gives me fight (strong-arm emoticon)

AOC has more on that right-wing journalist:
Hey, Michael Moates (@freedom_moates)! You can run from your misogyny, but you can’t hide. And @dcexaminer can’t hide that they choose to publish you AND the journalist who posted a creep shot of my behind to discuss my clothing. (thumbs-up emoticon) cool

NPR Politics:
Only three members of Congress currently pay their interns a $15 wage: Sen. Bernie Sanders, Democratic Sen. Doug Jones and Democratic Rep. Adam Smith. Newly-elected Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is set to join them.
Ocasio-Cortez Will Pay Her Interns $15 An Hour. Is That A Big Deal? : NPR -- looks like she is putting her money where her mouth is.

Yeah, she's once again showing her unworthiness for the office.

And I would have interpreted the original as meaning that socialists would have to eat their dogs because the economy is so messed up, not that they have a cultural desire to eat dogs.

It is an obvious reference to this.
Venezuela food shortages cause some to hunt dogs, cats, pigeons

I still remember the time when the prevailing opinion on these boards was to praise Chavismo and the glorious Bolivarian Revolution.

I wasn't aware of the specific reference but I figured the general idea.

No.

She said the corrupt criminal president has been protected by corrupt Republicans and that is going to end soon.

It is a promise, not a threat.

Of course he should be investigated. That doesn't change the fact that she made a threat that is completely unacceptable.

Call a lawyer.

I assure nobody will take your non-existent case.

It is a not a threat to tell somebody they are an idiot who will soon be investigated for real because there are so many smoking guns.

Except that's not what she said.

This is more akin to a cop suggesting you shut up before the vice department comes sniffing around.

The investigation has been ongoing and it has been hindered by Republican interference.

And several of Trump's very close associates are just about to go to jail.

This is not sniffing.

This is seeing a lot of smoke and saying; What the hell is going on here?

Why are so many of Trump's associates criminals?

How many close associates of Obama went to jail?

It's not a threat. It's like if a cop pulls you over and you have a trunk full of weed, you don't call the cop an a-hole every time he mentions drugs. If you do, he's going to think something is up and be more suspicious in trying to figure out what is going on.

What you seem to be unable to understand is that while the action of investigating him is the right thing to do her stated reason was very wrong and an abuse of power.
