I don't see anything in the article about a diversion program or sexual predator counseling for the teen, so it looks more like "letting a sexual assaulter off"

The two year probation may include counseling. But modern media nowadays does not do much fact gathering.

Instead, he should be deported back to Afghanistan, but that's not politically correct.

Because there definitely are some. And some in the US, Canada, Central and S. America, Europe, Asia, Africa: all around the world. It's not acceptable but it's also not uncommon.

What is your actual evidence that this teenager is a Muslim?
I suggest you email the prosecuting attorney named in the article and ask.
Do you have the slightest factual evidence that this teenager was treated differently at all?

Now here is the deal, there are thousands of these incidents in world, why was this one from Australia chosen to be highlighted?

Well Afghans are known to stay within 10 miles of their birth place. He's a teenager and he's several thousand miles from home where, legend has it, there are no turnips anywhere around.

That is evidence that it is very likely that he is a Muslim. But that is not evidence that he is Muslim.

He's from Afghanistan. Afghanistan is 99.7% Muslim.

Which means that it is highly likely he is Muslim. That does not mean that he is Muslim.
There is no mention of his religion. Nor is there mention that his religion played a role in the sentence. Yet, the usual suspects jump to the usual conclusions using the usual bigoted "reasoning".
Yes thousands of incidents of men riding trains and buses groping. Or other crowded places. This is an everyday occurrence.
Thousands of incidents of groping, yes. 8 in a row by one person, not so common.

Volunteers from an Osaka-based group handed out almost 500 badges to commuters on Friday morning in the JR Shibuya Station area in a bid to help prevent young female school girls and college and university students from being groped inside train cars.
The badges were made because it’s difficult for teenage girls to raise an alarm if they are groped and people standing nearby won’t necessarily come to their aid, according to Chikan Yokushi Katsudo Center, the group behind the badges. Also, the group hopes the badges will help to prevent any false charges being brought against innocent men, and that they will help girls to be more confident and assertive so that incidents can be averted before they happen.

In my fifth grade class--so we are talking 10 and 11 year olds, multiple boys simply snapped the bra bands of any girl they thought might be wearing one. Easily 8 in a row by a single person, multiplied by at least 8-10 boys. Happened repeatedly. Teacher did Not A Damn Thing. Boys will be boys, after all.
Of course what this boy is accused of went way further than snapping bra straps but then, he's much older and was swimming at a beach with a lot of young girls and young women in swimsuits.
Loren, I'm sure you would never have engaged in such behavior but it's quite common. On FB recently, I saw a guy posting a link to a reddit poll about women's first experience at being sexually harassed, touched, assaulted, etc. Respondents among his friends (most of whom I know) indicate that as young as 10 years old, girls are followed home by boys and sometimes men making suggestive and even lewd remarks. I think the youngest that anyone (again, people responding to a FB post of a reddit poll) was 5.
First time anyone wolf whistled at me, I was 4 or 5.
First time someone attempted to rape me, I was 13 and thought that fuck was only something someone wrote on bathroom stalls.
