Anti-Democracy Tactics by the GOP... again

We saw in 2016, the GOP pass a bunch of laws in North Carolina to castrate the incoming Democrat Governor. Some of those laws did

We are watching history repeat itself in Wisconsin.

The Republican-led Wisconsin legislature approved two bills that would diminish the powers of the state's governor and executive branch after a Democrat was elected to that office in November, Britt Cudaback, spokesman for Democratic Gov.-elect Tony Evers, told CNN Wednesday morning.

The Assembly and Senate are considering a number of bills designed to effectively prevent Evers and incoming Attorney General Josh Kaul from delivering on their campaign promises.

The first bill, SB 886, would require permission from the state legislature before the state's executive branch could make waivers or changes to public assistance programs, including work- and drug-testing requirements for "able-bodied" adults.

The second bill includes a measure that would eliminate the state's Department of Transportation's authority to transfer state and federal funding between highway programs.

This is becoming typical of the Authoritarian GOP whose seemingly are striving for single party rule from DC to the State Capitols.

LANSING, Mich. — Republicans who control Michigan's Legislature voted Wednesday to advance a measure that strips campaign-finance oversight power from the Democratic secretary of state-elect, and they were poised to give lawmakers authority to stand up for GOP-backed laws if they think the incoming Democratic governor and attorney general are not adequately defending the state's interests.

The lame-duck moves followed within hours of similar efforts in Wisconsin, where lawmakers voted earlier Wednesday to shift clout to the Republican-controlled Legislature and weaken the Democrat replacing the GOP governor.

Isn't that the standard response every time someone points out that they are waging war on democracy? They've been using that bumper sticker argument to rationalize their authoritarian tendencies since the Bush II administration, if not sooner.

At this point the new Democratic administration has to play hardball. Do what it takes to nullify these undemocratic power grabs.

It's a testament to how little most republicans actually care about rule of law and actual democracy that we're hearing very little (I haven't actually heard any) outcry from various GOP "leaders" or prominent right wing news sites.

If I were still a republican (it's been a long time), I would be outraged by this and would try to find a way to let every GOP representative know I was switching my party.

Mostly what we're getting are *crickets*. The more right wing places are still cheering these assholes on.
