Awkward Oreos Moment

When Donald Trump stepped on stage Thursday night, the event had all the makings of a normal Trump rally, but the podium read "New Jersey" instead of "Trump."

That's because the presumptive Republican nominee was raising money here for his former rival-turned-supporter Chris Christie.

"So you know Chris paid off his entire campaign debt tonight," Trump said.

The billionaire businessman also had a little fun with the New Jersey governor. As usual, Trump was lamenting Nabisco's decision to move jobs to Mexico, and he declared that he's not eating Oreos anymore.

He then pointed to Christie and asked, "You're not eating Oreos anymore, are you?"

"No more Oreos for either of us, Chris. Don't feel bad," Trump said, as the crowd awkwardly laughed.

Wow, he really beats up on his friend, doesn't he? Or did he think he was doing him a political favor by trying to portray Christie as much anti-moving-jobs-overseas as himself?

The trade treaty issue is the one substantive issue where Trump is correct and Clinton isn't in what otherwise is a middle school level name calling and unsubstantiated gossip campaign against her.

It is also one of the largest deviations that Trump has made from the movement conservatism, neoliberal, Libertarian orthodoxy of free markets, free trade, low taxes on the rich, deregulation and small government that is standing in the way of the donations that Trump needs to run a general election campaign and to pay back the loans that financed his primary campaign.

And yes, he made a fat joke referring to Christie. I suspect that it is not easy to be a friend of the Donald, especially for the people who have begged for campaign contributions from him in the past.

I might also add the trade treaty issue is also where Trump and Bernie agree and Clinton plus both parties take the 1% donor class stance.

Which is why middle class voters are going to have a difficult time choosing this time around.
