Zambia and Orlando Pride forward Barbra Banda has been voted BBC Women's Footballer of the Year.

She received the most votes from readers of the BBC Sport website after a five-player shortlist was announced last month. The shortlist - based on performances from September 2023 to August 2024 - was selected by a large panel of experts involved in football around the world, including coaches, players, administrators and non-BBC journalists. "I am shocked and surprised to have this award right by my side," the 24-year-old told BBC Sport.

Words cannot express how deeply I care about the sex, gender, and/or sexuality of a person I have never heard of who is getting an award I didn't know existed and wouldn't have given a shit about if I had.

I am sad to hear that there exist people whose lives are so tedious that they consider such things, in which they have no stake, to be of great import.

I note that J K Rowling and Jean Hatchet are not footballers, so would not be any more eligible for the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year Award than I am.

JKR and others like her can't get their story straight. Barbra Banda is NOT a transsexual, so why do they have their knickers in a twist?
They have transferred their obvious bigotry against transsexuals to someone who is a female, because she doesn't meet their "standards" of what a female should be. We should be asking them - "what is a woman?" as they clearly don't know and are confused.
It is interesting to note that Banda is 178 cm tall, and there are many other female athletes who are much taller.
