How much responsibility do the politicians, civic leaders have in all this trouble.
It seems in the US that you have political interference (direction or influence?) in the police, law (justice?) that would be unacceptable here in Australia.
Are the cities with the trouble viz. Baltimore, Ferguson, Chicago etc. Democrat or Republican? How long has party in power been in power and has it got worse on their watch? What, if anything, have they done about it?

Does it make any real difference which party is in power?

I don't think it makes a difference which party is in power. Actually, you can usually assume Democrat as African-Americans have been pretty alienated by the Republicans in the last few decades and vote 90-95% Democrat. (Hence the revival of voting restrictions aimed at keeping Blacks out of the polls.) Conservative politicians use racial code words all the time.

Agreed. The politicians meddle far too much.

In the kind of meddling, yes. In the amount, no.

Not to interrupt the pissing in the racial pool fun party time thread, but I thought maybe a little data would be nice. You know, because I love threads that try to link parties or races to the armageddon like conditions in America.

But I thought, maybe, a little perspective would be good. You see, the murder rate in the US in 1980 was 10.2 per 100,000 Americans. In the 90s, it really started to plummet. According to other sources, in 2013, it was 4.5, about where it was in 1950. Between 1990 and 2000, the rate of black victims and black killers dropped by half.

The rates are still too high, but this idea that things haven't gotten better seem to be coming from people who clearly don't have a clue. Who's to blame? Is that meant to ask, who is to credit for the substantial drop in killings?

Who to credit: Liberals.

1) Getting the lead out.

2) Legalized abortion.

Given that their job is to run the country and the cities, and uphold the laws that prohibit discrimination, I would say the responsibility is mostly theirs.
