I've seen tv specials and news reports documenting the harem of imported prostitutes the Sultan keeps in Brunei. The women make fairly large sums of money depending on how long they stay there. I guess prostitution doesn't count as adultery.

Is Brunei safe to visit these days? I am planning a trip to Borneo, mostly in the northwest (Malaysia) but was considering visiting Brunei just since I will be so close to it.

While the Koran indicates that adultery is forbidden regardless of gender, the overarching extreme misogyny of the Koran and Islam means that women will be the primary targets of violence under such an adultery law.
