While I generally agree with the conclusion about Palin, I think Cillizza misses several important points. 1- Other than promoting her brand, Palin was the central integrating point for the Tea Party (disgruntled/enraged) "movement." It kept it motivated and focused on the arch enemy - liberal/progressive Democrats and Obama. Steve Bannon made a documentary about her in this role. 2- Her role was sub-summed by Trump when he announced. Bannon jumped on board. Trump certainly does not need or want another star in his orbit, she was going to be a problem. The baton was passed. Bye Bye Sarah.

Desperate people fleeing desperate life threatening conditions do not need any encouragement.

Yeah, her PAC gravy train had been slowing for a number of years, but she was able to milk it for millions. And I appear to have a little luck at being prescient from last August:

SarahPAC could quite easily wimper to an end after this election cycle. She only has $170k in the bank, and with her travel lifestyle and high payments for consultants, she will have a hard time having to write her own speeches, flying coach, renting her own car, and staying at the Holiday in... A year ago, she had $560k in her PAC.

She was a, what I'd call, a SJW. She made a short political career from fake outrage. Did so well, she hopped to Governor of Alaska, then VP candidate by a desperate John McCain campaign.

Then she went out to make money (did decently for a while, dragging her idiot followings along) and even going the reality tv show route, until her fellow hunters noticed she didn't know jack about hunting. Slowly, so unbelievably slowly, her train has finally come to a halt having sucked out all the milk and is only getting puss and blood at this point from the unfortunate cash cow that she latched as a parasite onto.

Probably the most depressing thing for Palin is that even early onset Alzheimers Ben Carson received a position on Trump's Cabinet while she was left behind.
