I wonder how they are going to come up with the 500k+ signatures while they only have about 7k volunteers and no money.

I'll sign it if that helps.

How many have fled to Canada? :)

Succession from the union has been illegal since the end of the civil war. Granted, the idea that succession can be 'illegal' when the succeeding power doesn't recognize your authority is pretty laughable.

Seceding from the British Empire was illegal too, but it's the foundation of your country.

I'm all in favour of the US breaking up into smaller parts in order to lesson the impact of it doing things like electing Donald Trump.

That would be awesome, but it won't happen; Trump would sooner bomb CA into oblivion than give up its ports, natural resources etc..
OTOH, a nuclear civil war would probably be a better thing for the rest of the world than letting Twitler run roughshod over it...

This was decided 150 years ago. The rest of the morons have a giant military and the means to prevent any such attempt at secession. Especially by a bunch of very liberal people.

I have no issue with that. Sending in your military to fight insurrectionists in California means that you have less military available to do one of your patented random invasions of other countries. It would be the American people suffering the consequences of the actions taken by the American people and that's better than some other group suffering for it. Also, this would help weaken and undermine the structure of your country and that's a plus for everybody who's not you.

I think it would go something like:

Liberal Californians: "We're seceding!"
The Union: "LOL. No."
Liberal Californians: "Uh-huh"
The Union: "You and what army?"
Liberal Californians: "These guys... wait, Conservative Californians who own most of the guns and are most of the military, what are you doing over there on the Union's side! Come back!"
The Union: "Trololololo"

And that would probably be a matter of days.

Nonsense. Without CA he won the popular vote.

Can you image what it would mean to markets, to our foreign relations, to the country's own internal morale, if the largest state by population voted to leave, not leave, but voted to leave? And if 600,000 people sign that petition, how will Sacramento then vote on state legislation? How would other states react? What is legally possible begins to pale in comparison to what this could do internationally to the reputation of the nation and internally to the hearts and minds of the entire country.

They don't have to secede, the threat and the evidence of the will to secede is enough. And what is other states take similar votes?

Is everyone confusing the US elections with BREXIT?

Indeed. Imagine if the US military was sent in to keep Californians from leaving the union. Imagine that image. California would not have to actually leave or even fight a war trying to leave for this to be HUGE and undermine the very basis the USA tries to present itself as. You would have Americans everywhere with a serious identity issue. They'd no longer be the country for freedom etc. They would be the repressive empire.

China may have to liberate the American people lol

It was illegal and resulted in a rebellion. Warfare.

Not a petition.

What, you think the Poms have a monopoly on being fucking stupid?

And then a century later, Canada asked nicely and parted ways over a cup of tea. There is nothing about a country splitting up that needs to lead to warfare.

Even if it does, it's safe to say that the US is going to declare war on someone over the next few years. From a logistical point of view, California means that you don't need to send your troops overseas and from the point of view of the rest of the planet, it would be polite of you to blow up each other instead of bothering the rest of us.

I think that it would be pretty simple. Just have Trumpster threaten to start taking away federal grants from the "sanctuary cities" in California. Start pissing off people, and they'll be motivated.

If the Democrats with the next election will the leave campaign then join again?

The whole sanctuary city issue is ridiculous. Why should US cities be allowed to harbor illegals?

As to Calexit, since Gov. Moonbeam declared himself in full support of illegal immigration, maybe he will just make California Mexico again after he secedes. Have fun with the cartels!
