I've got a decent Nikon SLR and I took a bunch of landscape type photos for work. I also took some with my cell phone. People tend to like the cell phone pics better. To me the cell phone pics look way over enhanced and fake. They don't look real. I took a Nikon photo of my cat and then I enhance the hell out of it with a software editor -- way too much in my opinion, but people on Facebook were, "That's a great picture."

Am I completely imagining this or are people's view of the real world distorted by cell phone pics? I feel like I'm looking at Playboy when people share landscape or nature pics.

I can't specifically address cell phone pictures but we do tend to favor oversaturated images.

Most of my photography is wildlife and I need a big zoom. Smartphones will never cut it.

And even when I use a simple pocket camera I get better quality photos than my Samsung S4 can produce.
