On the right is the original - on the right side is "Finn" - a black character

The original is on the right side:

Then there are stories of Chinese government genocide (Uyghurs?)

China is very racist, period.

My wife has a relative that doesn't want some more distant relatives to know that my wife married outside her race--he sees that as a negative that reflects negatively on him. (And I'm white, not black!)

We have also had worries from relatives about travel plans that involved going into parts of China that aren't Han Chinese.

The Uyghur issue is more about religion than race, though. China is afraid of Islamist activity and trying to stop it in a very heavy-handed and idiotic way.

BTW the Karate Kid movie set in China has a black main character.... then he gets a Chinese girlfriend....

Live in cultural isolation at your own peril. It is diversity that enables society to adapt to technological changes and sustain economic growth. A lack of cultural diffusion may work great for production but it does nothing for creativity.

I don't get the movie poster thing. Presumably, they haven't deleted the black characters from the movie itself, and word would get around quickly after the premier that movie has black people in it. So, how does deleting or covering up blacks from the movie poster do anything? Especially, Black Panther. Did they CGI a mask or every black person in the movie? WTF? Why even bother bringing that movie at all to China?

That's not The Karate Kid. That is Will and Jada's low-talent child cosplaying.
Actually your statement is not entirely true. He did play the Karate Kid in a recent remake. You do have it right though, that he is a low talent child. There is an earlier remake where the Karate Kid is a girl, played by Hillary Swank. I'll leave it to your imagination regarding the race and gender of the next Karate Kid remake.

Remember back in the ole day's when some of the home movie rental services used to put pornographic posters on their windows to sell porn? It could be that the Chinese government views black people on public display as lewd. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well they got white folks beat on that front. Racists white people don't want us to be seen with their women. ;)

My observation is that most peoples and cultures around the world have some degree of racism. Some of it is limited to not wanting family to marry outside of some narrow parameters/specific race, religion, or socio-economic class, for that matter. In general, most have some degree of prejudice against people who are darker skinned than they are, even if most Americans would see them as the same race. For a time, I worked in a work place with people from all over the world but it was run/managed by people who were Arabs, from the middle east. Definite racism against American blacks, and also some pronounced prejudice against darker skinned Arabs, increasing as did the melanin content of the object's melanin level. Also observed regarding Asian staff members--light was alright; darker, definitely looked down upon. And yes, in general my observation is that Chinese and Japanese and Korean people are fairly racist.

Overall, I highly doubt a significant enough amount of the Chinese population is actually racist (by Transatlantic slave trade standards).

Anyway. The black Character is still there. Who they actually removed was Chewbacca.

For someone who has championed protecting children from CRT and sex talks you sure are mean to them.

Poor Chewie just can't catch a break. First, no medal at the end of A New Hope, and now this. :pouting:

Now... Is it anti-yeti because the feature features a yeti-like character and china is suppressing them, or is it anti-yeti because the character portrays yetis in an ultimately stereotypical way?

Seriously, though, China has some serious problems with "hammering down" the "nail" that stands out.

Han China is very much into homogeneity.

That's silly, you can't discriminate against me, I'm white.

Yes, because if we don't have a white boy playing the role of the martial arts student... it must be woke. Because white boys doing Asian martial arts is so much less ridiculous than black boys.

We aren't sexist or racist... we just seem way overly concerned over the subject.

The point is that it's not confined to blacks. There's some pretty major racism against anyone who isn't Chinese.
