The state of Ohio has been shading towards the red color the since the Great Recession, when the Democrat Governor was held accountable for the Global Recession. The blood bath in 2010 allowed redistricting and Ohio has drawn borders that makes it near impossible to make gains in Ohio. So the Republicans have firm control in the state.

Which apparently isn't enough, thanks to Trump. Gov. Dewine is a solid right-wing Republican. He is in no way a moderate, though a couple positions did shift a little regarding Lake Erie as they seem to do with the GOP when people become Governor. Regardless, Gov. Dewine, solid conservative, reacted to the pandemic in a way that didn't involve tweeting mean things. He, along with compatriot Gov. Hogan (MD), were the first to finally act and close the schools. This action was taken before the Trump Administration finally allowed the CDC to do something. They then closed everything down.

And for the party of public denier of Covid-19 significance / President, the GOP was pissed. Even suggestions were made that Dewine was planning FEMA camps to hold people. Make no mistake, I am not a fan of Gov. Dewine, but his performance during the pandemic put one of the larger states in the US legitimately midway down the death column, 26th per capita... not like Florida's bullshit we have fiddled with the numbers reporting. Ohio has been less reactive and more proactive.

But, like I said, OMFG! Trump says it isn't a big deal. So the brain damaged GOP worked on passing legislation, and overriding Dewine's veto, removing emergency powers from the Governor. In general, the Democrats were the ones voting to not override the veto!

The bill:
article said:
SB 22 would give lawmakers authority to cancel any health orders that last longer than 30 days, require the governor’s office to renew such orders in 60-day intervals, and create a legislative oversight panel.

The bill would also limit local health officials’ power to require people to quarantine or self-isolate without a specific medical diagnosis, and it would allow Ohioans to sue over the constitutionality of any state emergency order in their home county.
So it allows non-partisan and partisan meddling in health emergencies, both at the state level and at the county level, where again the GOP's call for "local control" is nothing but BS.

To make matters worse, top leaders in the GOP admit this bill is flawed!

article said:
House Majority Floor Leader Bill Seitz, a Cincinnati Republican, said SB22 is “not perfect” and that lawmakers need to change it “down the line” to allow authorities to isolate someone who comes into Ohio from a pandemic hotspot while waiting for them to be diagnosed.

But such changes, he said,” should not obfuscate the principle purpose for which we passed Senate Bill 22, which was to restore...an element of checks and balances.”
Need to fix it "down the line"?

And all of this because of President Trump. I would never have imagined the GOP getting this out of their mind. Gov. Dewine made the hard choices that saved lives and didn't help spread the disease unlike other politicians and states. And his own party continues to attack the moral actions he took.

It is cult of personality.

Scientology grows out of a fat twit.

Trumpism grows out of some fat pathologically lying face painting old bankrupt incompetent failure.

No rational mind can make sense of it.
