Clinton announces intent to shut thousands of schools

Addressing the OP, Clinton's gaff was just that, a gaff. She wasn't setting forth a policy.

Part of my fear with a Hillary presidency is that I don't see any new policy coming from her. When it comes to education in particular, we've had the same-old-same-old coming from both sides for some time, and Hillary just seems to me to be perpetuating the status quo. I'm not satisfied with the current direction of our education system, and I don't see Hillary changing that.

Which is the main problem with Clinton as a candidate. Right now, she has a walk into the White House simply as a result of being Hillary Clinton. It does not serve her interests to do anything bold or risky which might potentially backfire or might cause problems with her 2020 reelection campaign due to her not having fulfilled some election promises she makes this time.

All she needs to do is stay the course for the next eleven months and it's easiest to do that by avoiding being specific as often as possible.

Why are people continuing to debate this asinine assertion by dismal? Does anyone here actually believe that dismal does not understand the context of Clinton's statement, and is continuing to drag this discussion out for the sake of his own amusement? I have read a lot of stupid shit dismal has come up with over the years, and as with most, he is not even trying hard to sound convincing.

This is all dismal has, it is Christmas, and this is cheaper than a necktie.

She's just like most people in that she says stupid things sometimes. Do recall Hanlon's Razor:
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

So, your argument is that even though she clearly and directly expressed an intent to shut down thousands of schools she didn't mean it she's just stupid about math (and the powers of the President)?

That is certainly a more compelling argument than "ZMFOG teh context!!1111" given the context does nothing to change the meaning of her statement.

Congratulations, instead of learning something you've decided to quotemine me in the same way that you quotemined Billary.

Whoa, now there's a big difference. I quotemined you to pull out the one insightful gem and probably made you look more insightful than your post merited, and I did not quotemine Hillary because the stupidity of her statement stands on its own.

See video in OP. She is on camera saying exactly what she is quoted saying.
Yes, the words are not under dispute.

Your word, 'intent,' that's the fantasy you're flogging.

She says: "Now, I wouldn't keep any school open that wasn't doing a better than average job."

First, the dictionary suggest the word "would" used as she used it is used to express "wish, desire, or intent":

Full Definition of would
past of will
1
a archaic : wished, desired
b archaic : wish for : want
c (1) : strongly desire : wish <I would I were young again> —often used without a subject and with that in a past or conditional construction <would that I had heeded your advice> (2) —used in auxiliary function with rather or sooner to express preference <he would sooner die than face them>
2
a —used in auxiliary function to express wish, desire, or intent <those who would forbid gambling>
b —used in auxiliary function to express willingness or preference <as ye would that men should do to you — Luke 6:31 (Authorized Version)>
c —used in auxiliary function to express plan or intention <said we would come>

Second, if you don't consider that a statement of intent what is it? A promise? An aspiration? A wish? A desire?

It seems silly to quibble over that sort of thing when she clearly says she would close thousands of schools.

I don't consider it 'intent' for the simple fact that presidential hopefuls do not speak wistfully of their intentions.

So you see it as what? An empty promise? Pandering to the crowd? She was in front of a bunch of school teachers and administrators so she decided she'd fire them up by talking about how she would close thousands of schools?

Reminds me of that time Obama slipped up and said something about his "Muslim faith" and the right wing took it literally. Some of those fucking idiots still insist he's a Muslim because of those few words taken out of context.

But that's fucking idiots for ya.

No, you quotemined both Hillary and me. You chose not to respond to anything else I wrote but the single piece. And you took Hillary out of context.

It's even worse, she said that once she is Supreme Leader of the Galaxy she is going to close billions of schools. She is such a dictator because you already think she is.
