I know the other thread exists, but I think the intention of it was specifically to catalog Trump’s statements.

I was hoping to get a general catch-all for stupidity by Republicans more broadly.

The day before millions of Texans lost power for over 18 hours:

The irony - a few days ago they wanted to secede. Now they want federal aid.
Biden should pull a Donald, and make them come to DC to pledge fealty to his dogs if they want any federal money.*

* No, not really

The Exploted: Police Shit said:
Police lie on oath
It happens all the time
15 years for the guildford four
Innocent people sent them off to jail
You could be next
Can't trust the police at all
Can't trust the police at all
Police shit
Walking down the high street
With a friend of mine
Got stopped by the police
They asked us where we're from
I wouldn't tell him
Told him to go and get stuffed
He radioed for backup
Then they locked us up

I'm getting some mixed signals. First he says that "the weak will parish", but in the next sentence invokes the "Folks God". Doesn't the Folks God have parishes?

I thought if you were paying for a service you had the right to expect the service.

I live in Corsicana, a city in Texas, and we are all not hard hearted people. We even elected an actual Socialist mayor many years ago.

Aaaaannnnd he's gone.

Texas mayor says he had already resigned after writing ‘only the strong will survive’ amid cold, power outages

Oh, so he didn't resign because of his idiotic rant, he went on the idiotic rant after resigning.

Even if that is true, it still makes him an idiot, and a perfect example of all the Republican party has to offer.

And they wonder why we call them Nazis, when they use the same exact rhetoric Nazis did.

They think small, or aspirationally big, in Texas. Their Colorado City had a population of a bit over 4, 000 in 2010, according to Wikipedia.

So the Rick Perry is saying Texans would rather go without power at a time when they are without power and therefore unlikely to have internet access to see that he is saying that or respond to it.

I think Rick Perry is saying he thinks Texans are stupid.

That was my initial take, but I know Rick Perry is stupid, so all bets are off.

At this rate, Texas appearing in glossy reddish-brown on 2024 election maps won't be because it's leaning Republican. All fatalities are the result of grossly incompetent government officials & private corporations too busy doing the electric slide with their money than preparing the grid.

"Waaah why are you only focusing on Republicans waaah".

You are mocking, but you are making a good point despite yourself. The PD is supposed to be for "The academic discussion of world issues and politics." It is not supposed to be a partisan wank-fest. This is not Democratic Underground!

So considering you claim to care about academic discussion, will you stop making threads along the lines of "idiot does x"? Because that's, quite frankly, fairly non-academic, and more along the lines of what tabloids do to generate outrage porn. I'll stop making such threads to set an example.

Since this forum is supposed to be for academic discussion, should baseless conspiracy theories about election fraud be allowed? After all that's merely propaganda to push an agenda, and not particularly academic discussion. :consternation1:

:coffeespray I thought said propaganda was the topic of the academic discussion, not the academic discussion itself.

But Derec's argument was that we shouldn't allow this to be a "democratic wankfest". Ok, fine. But if a Republican goes around spreading election fraud conspiracies, and other Republicans join in and support it, that too constitutes a "wankfest". So if we are to have "academic discussion", no wankfests.

There's absolutely no reason that examples of elected officials' stupidity in this thread can only be selected from Republican elected officials.

If Derec has examples of similarly stupid actions or comments by officials who are members of other political parties, he's welcome to post them.

That instead he complains about it being a "partisan wank-fest" strongly suggests that he fully understands that only one of the two major parties in US politics is likely to feature strongly in any display of abject, extreme and/or laughable stupidity, and that he doesn't like that fact.

Facts don't care whether anyone likes them.

In order for it to be a wankfests, does not all participants have to be willing to wank? If some in the room aren't wanking then it's not a wankfest. It just a few attempting to convince the rest in the room to wank but are met with academic refusals in disgust.

Right, it's like the gop admitting they are the party of white supremacists when they complain that 'cancelling' white supremacy is censoring republicans. They're admitting a lot more than they realize. ;)

A lot of right wingers vehemently deny being right wingers. I'd expect a lot of left wingers to also deny being left wingers, but for some reason, I don't see that. Maybe because I'm a "left winger"?

I think he has tried that (quotes from AOC and others) but they fell flat when context was provided for the excerpts he posts. Kinda like his attempts to assert "reverse racism" in order to cancel 400+ years of white Americans' oppression and genocide of ethnic minorities.

Conservatives keep calling me a communist, so I thought, y'know what? Why not own up to it? Sure, I'm a communist!

To be fair, anyone who doesn't full throatedly endorse the Republican "free enterprise" feudal system, is literally a communist, at least relatively speaking.

I wouldn't know where to go to deny being a left winger. Or how. I mean, denying RIGHT-wingmanship is easy.

I say things like, 'i thought we established Nazis were losers?' And a coworker snaps, 'Not all right wingers are Nazis!'
I...never said they were, Dick.

Or, "there's still a lot of racism in this country.' And i get told by Harry,, "NOT EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR (Florida Man) IS RACIST!!"

So, right-wing is easy.
I think they're trying to 'get back' at me when they try to convince me my goals are Marxist. But we never get to the punchline. "I suppose you'd give free healthcare to hippies and draft dodgers?" Um, yeah. What part of 'for all' confuses you?

I like when I mention the same arguments were made ages ago against social security and free public schools & I get "The public schools suck & social security is being gutted". I grin and say "but the communists didn't take over".

So if you were a dog, would you rather belong to Ted Cruz or Mitt Romney?

Yes, you have to choose.

Perhaps you remember that many, many years ago, Romney drove to Canada for a family vacation with his Irish setter Seamus on the roof of his car. I mentioned this fact about two million times when Romney ran for president, mainly to break up the tedium of a very boring campaign.

This week Cruz made headlines when he got caught taking a plane for a family escape to Mexico while Texas was suffering through its stupendous weather crisis.

Michael Hardy, a Texas journalist, went to check the on the empty Cruz house in Houston and discovered the neighborhood had indeed had a power outage. He also saw “a small, white dog looking out the bottom right pane of glass in the senator’s front door.”

Ted had abandoned Snowflake the poodle! OK, that’s a little tough. A security guard parked outside the senator’s house volunteered that he’d been doing some caretaking.

Apparently, Republican politicians aren't mentally fit enough to have pets! Still, at least Romney did take his do with him on vacation, even if he did tie him to the roof of the car.

Well, Snowflake doesn't speak Mexican, so he'd just be bored in Cancun.

My feeling is that Republicans are basically sociopaths, from slightly like Romney to completely, like Trump. Treating a family pet in that way shows a lack of empathy.
