WASHINGTON DC -- The Department of Homeland Security is preparing for a surge of citizenship applications according to DHS Spokesperson Wendy Dahl who spoke to a press gathering late Friday afternoon. "We originally didn't expect to see an increase so quickly, but early signs indicate an impending swell in applications."
Dahl indicated that hours after President Trump's assertion that America should accept more immigrants from countries like Norway, website traffic at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services started to increase. By the following morning, the website crashed due to an unprecedented increase in traffic, primarily from servers in Norway.
DHS has already sent a letter to the White House requesting additional staff and funding to help cover and respond to the initial swell of emails from Norwegians who wanted to obtain information for the process to obtain American citizenship.
"We have never seen such an uptick in emails or internet traffic," noted Dahl.
