NYPD looking for Brooklyn Foot Locker looters

Looters took $25k worth of shoes. But I want our resident looting and arson experts to tell us whether looting a Foot Locker is ok.

We have been already told that looting a Target and arson at Wells Fargo is ok, but looting an East Lake Street taqueria is not. Presumably, setting fire to a Wendy's is fine too. But what about looting a Foot Locker? Inquiring minds want to know!

Foot Locker has been looting its customers for decades. I am more likely to be found at Tiffanys than a Foot Locker.

Derec, you can't keep asking one business at a time. That's a waste of Jarhyn's time.

What you need to do is prepare a list of major stores and franchises in the U.S. and present it all at once, so that Jarhyn can give a "no looting" designation, or the "loot and do not mourn" designation.

Yes (for shit's sake there are African slaves in their supply chain and they damn well know it) but this was just a standard-ass burglary.

Gee, that's a lot of shoes. $25k
Somebody needs to pay, and I'm sure Trump would agree.
But for some reason... nobody is complaining about these jackasses:

Man charged in deputy ambush scrawled extremist 'Boogaloo' phrases in blood

Steven Carrillo, a California man who was charged with murder after he ambushed two Santa Cruz County deputies, scrawled phrases tied to an online far-right extremist movement in blood on a car shortly before he was detained.

Carrillo killed Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller, critically injured another deputy and threw pipe bombs at police on June 6th, Santa Cruz District Attorney Jeffrey S. Rosell alleged on Thursday.

Right wing terrorists plotting against the United States Government get a pass while Libbertards fret and worry about shoes.

Why would libertarians be concerned about libertarian terrorists freedom fighters?

It is just a justified as police brutality against innocent civilians.

Why didn't Foot Locker call the police? After all, we pay the police to prevent this sort of thing. What are we getting for all that money? Should we ask to speak to a manager?

Sometimes reality sucks. You let little things like police not being held accountable for their actions, because being a policeman is a dangerous job and he has the right to go home to his family. Sometimes he kills a person who is not a threat to him or anyone else. Shit happens.

Imagine if the 3rd base umpire tripped a base runner and everybody just shrugged and said "Black suits matter". Then one day the base runner knocks the umpire on his ass and keeps heading for home plate. The player is suspended and fined. This can go on for a long time, but eventually there will be no more baseball games, because players will simply not play by the rules.

What it all means is simple. When you decide it's time to bitch because it's your shit that's getting fucked up, it's too late to complain. If you want to do something constructive, go back in time and do a better job of being a citizen in a democracy.

Watch the video from the independent shoe store I posted.

The police saw the looting and did nothing.

I think that maybe in the back of their mind they are thinking that the looting discredits the protests, which it does.

But more on the other side the looting more so raises the media attention so insanely high that topics like limiting qualified immunity (impunity) are given a lot more airtime.

So the cops should have done better to stop the looting, even from a self interested asshole position.

Looting and arson unfortunately work in today's society.

In "today's society"? This has been fundamental to American democracy since well before we were an independent state. You should just be glad we don't do tarring and feathering anymore like in the old days!

Play it out, your scenario where the cops stop the looting. Do you foresee a confrontation? And for what? Theft of insured merchandise. The cops stopping the looting would likely be excessive for the crime being committed. In these situations, deescalation is the proper course.

When I was in Emperor training school, one to the lessons was to never exercise power if you think it might demonstrate you don't have enough power to do the job. Police power depends on two factors. The first is the tacit cooperation of most people. The second, there must always be more police than people who are giving tacit cooperation. When your authority and power is questioned, the worst thing you can do is demonstrate you don't have any.

Qualified immunity does not mean impunity. It means a public official cannot be sued for actions and judgments within the duties of his job. This means a citizen cannot sue the city engineer because they don't like the shape of the road. It does not shield a public employee from the consequences of a crime committed while on the job. Looting and arson have always worked in any society. When authority is faced with a challenge greater than their authority, it's because what they have actually lost is tacit cooperation. They have to go back and regain that, somehow.

There are plenty of ways to do this. One way is harsh repression. That is actually quite inefficient, as a lot of government resources are expended. Another is to address the problem which brought about the crisis. Humans are inherently lazy. We aren't going to to things that make life difficult, unless life is so difficult it doesn't matter.

The abuse of police power is a problem as old as palace guards. The difference of today's world is that ubiquitous camera phone. In an instant, millions of people can see abuse of power in action, and what is critical, see it as a personal threat. We may be lazy, but we react to threats. If authority wants to retain power and tacit cooperation, it has to recognize that people will not live under threat of injustice and abuse.

If police doesn't do anything about looting, it encourages more and more looting. Eventually, your store becomes uninsurable because thugs steal too much of your merchandise without any repercussions.

What do you mean "nobody"? The early George Floyd/Minneapolis threads were full of complains about Boogaloos, even claiming that all white rioters were right-wing Boogaloos and none were leftist whites allies with the #BLM movement.

Looting is much less serious than police brutality.

I don’t approve of looting although I understand it in some circumstances. Assaults and worse are far more serious crimes and when done by those who are sworn to serve and protect? Who are representing US? That is not justifiable.
