The beast within me hopes this lawsuit destroys Mr. Liddell's reputation and finances.
How many here were against black box voting in 2004 when it was Diebold?

The right wing media forgot that they typically targeted public left-wing personalities and politicians, which provides little legal defense from defamation. They extended that to corporations which is very out of bounds, and they went at it hard! Kind of like a Running Back who runs out of bounds at the 10 yard line, but continues storming through the opponents bench down the field and is surprised when a flag is thrown after they stop 60 yards down field.https://www.rawstory.com/dominion-voting-lawsuits-conspiracy-theories/..

"CEO John Poulos, whose company filed a $1.3 billion defamation suit a day earlier against MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, confirmed that more legal action was coming in an interview with CNBC's Eamon Javers on 'Closing Bell,'" reported Kevin Breuninger. "It's 'definitely not the last lawsuit,' Poulos said. Asked directly if Dominion would sue Fox News, Poulos said, 'We are not ruling anybody out.'"

Another election systems company, Smartmatic, is waging a $2.7 billion suit against Fox News for reputational damage from a similar disinformation campaign.

Sic 'em Dominion! Sic 'em Smartmatic! This is such a joy to read.
An independent forensic audit of the Dominion Voting Systems machines used in Maricopa County, Arizona found that there was “no evidence of vote switching and concluded that the equipment tabulated and adjudicated ballots accurately” in the 2020 presidential election, according to government reports produced Tuesday.
“The audits clearly dispel the notion that somehow the November election was rigged,” said County Supervisor Steve Gallardo. “Whether you liked the results or not, the will of the people was represented. Our equipment worked. Our people were above reproach. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: 2020 elections in Maricopa County were safe, secure, and accurate. End of story.”
The Maricopa Board of Supervisors in January unanimously voted to conduct the audits in response to false conspiracy theories propagated by Donald Trump and other Republicans, who claimed that Dominion’s machines were used to steal votes from Trump so Joe Biden would win. The former president and his allies filed several post-election lawsuits challenging election results in Arizona, none of which have succeeded.
Dominion Voting Systems has filed a staggering $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News, alleging that the network pushed false claims that the voting machine company rigged the 2020 election.
It’s the latest in a string of massive lawsuits from Dominion, which was the target of a wrong and frankly bizarre Trumpist conspiracy theory that it changed people’s votes in order to help President Joe Biden. Fox News joins Trump allies Sidney Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell in being chased for damages for spreading the claim.
In its suit against Fox, Dominion reportedly alleges that the network “sold a false story of election fraud in order to serve its own commercial purposes, severely injuring Dominion in the process.” Attorney Justin Nelson accuses Fox of taking a “conscious, knowing business decision to endorse and repeat and broadcast these lies in order to keep its viewership.”
FOX will settle. It will be big.
They have no defense.
It is always a chance to take something to trial.
You get some lying Trump cult member on the jury and they don't care about truth or morality or justice.
Their argument in determining the $1.3 billion better be rock solid. Expect the usual suspects to complain about the "frivolous" nature.
Yes, one would hope. But it may be reasonable given the operating costs of the company, how much extra security that they've had to pay for, and the potential for lost business.
Then with lots of money to play with, Smartmatic can start more lawsuits against others involved in libelling and defaming them. Rush Limbaugh was just as bad if not worse than Dobbs. And then we have the radio station media companies that kept Rush on air spreading lies and defamation. This all could be a target rich environment for Smartmatic.

How does that work in civil trials?
Suppose 4 jurors are Trumpist morons who vote to acquit,
4 jurors vote to convict but only give Dominion $1 million, and
4 jurors vote to convict for $1 billion. What is the net result?

The Trumpist morons attack the court security personnel, killing some if necessary, then force entry into the Judge's chambers, destroying property and stealing souvenirs like gavels, demanding an acquittal.
The ultimate result is determined by whether or not they actually catch the judge.

Voir dire when properply executed should prevent this type of problem.
Right-wing cable outlet Newsmax settled a defamation suit brought by a Dominion Voting Systems executive Friday with an apology and admitted that allegations of voter fraud that it aired were untrue, the latest backtracking as Newsmax and other conservative outfits face legal retribution for amplifying former President Donald Trump’s baseless vote-rigging claims.
SURPRISING FACT
Coomer’s lawsuit says he suffered death threats because of the false allegations leveled against him, forcing him to flee his home and go into hiding.
CRUCIAL QUOTE
“On behalf of Newsmax, we would like to apologize for any harm that our reporting of the allegations against Dr. Coomer may have caused to Dr. Coomer and his family,” the network said in a statement posted to its website Friday.
KEY BACKGROUND
Immediately after last year’s presidential election, Newsmax turned itself into a haven for voters who believed Trump was the rightful winner. The network waited more than a month before calling the race for President Joe Biden, and it spent weeks giving airtime to the false conspiracy theory that Trump was a victim of widespread vote-rigging. This approach has occasionally landed the network in hot water: After election software company Smartmatic threatened to sue Newsmax in December, the channel broadcast an on-air statement rebutting allegations against both Smartmatic and its competitor, Dominion. Plus, on at least two separate occasions, anchors for Newsmax have interrupted interviews with Trump-supporting MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell after he tried to repeat vote-rigging claims on-air.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Coomer is still suing a litany of other Trump-adjacent figures, including the Trump campaign, lawyers Powell and Rudy Giuliani, One America News, and the far-right website Gateway Pundit. Coomer’s lawyers said he’s seeking punitive damages.
