Draining the Swamp

oh, I get it.. Draining the swamp so it can be remodeled and expanded. A new wing put in, direct access to Trump hotels set up, business center expanded, and guaranteed twitter access from all points.

Yeah, this is one those, slam your head into the table moments.

And filling it with toxic waste....

Yeah. Seems like this is something they might have waited on and done when it would draw less attention.
But as you said, credit Donny-boy. Seems to be his tactic to shame as necessary and badabing badaboom, mission accomplished.
"This president thing is gonna be a piece of cake."

NYT said:
In place of the office, Republicans would create a new Office of Congressional Complaint Review that would report to the House Ethics Committee, which has been accused of ignoring credible allegations of wrongdoing by lawmakers.

In practice, do we know how these other organizations would differ from the Office of Congressional Ethics? Could they conceivably pick up the slack if the OCE is rendered ineffectual?

David Axelrod - Advisor to President Obama said:
This House ethics drama was an absolute gift to Donald Trump — a big, fat zeppelin for him to shoot down

Next the house will stage a vote to imprison all Muslims, and Donny will say, "no, not yet", and he will be touted as a recurring hero.

Yes, the way to make the Donald appear to be presidential is for Congress to propose ridiculous changes and for the Donald to get them to back down. This could be extended to companies announcing that they are going to dismantle their factories and move them to Mexico and then have the Donald talk them out of doing what they had no intention of doing. It is marvelous way to appear to be doing something while actually doing nothing.

This whole ordeal was a joke. A significant number of Republicians (about 1/3) opposed the change. When joined with the democrats, it had no chance of passing.

Draining the swamp but leaving the alligators, snakes and muck.

Rescued from the memory hole:

The Office of Congressional Ethics, a powerful symbol of Democrats’ promise to “drain the swamp” in Washington, is in danger of having its power stripped after the midterm elections.

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have led the charge, airing complaints about the aggressive, independent panel in a private session with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last month, and they’ve drafted a resolution that, if approved, would severely curtail the panel’s power.

But there’s hot competition between the CBC and the official House ethics committee over who has less regard for the Office of Congressional Ethics, also known as the OCE. And the rest of the House doesn’t appear to be far behind in its disdain. Privately, Democratic and Republican lawmakers, and even some congressional leaders, acknowledge that there’s a strong sentiment to change rules that empower the office to publicize investigations and wreak havoc on lawmakers’ political lives.
