Election Day Is Here!

I have zero faith in America as a country and think that, despite everything, y'all will keep the GOP in charge of everything.

I do hope that you prove me wrong but, as I said, I have zero faith that you'll actually do that. Also, I confidently predicted a Clinton victory two years ago, so what the hell do I know about you weirdos anyways?

I'm done :(

If I could figure out how to move to another country, I swear I would.

That sounds more like frustration than a true desire to move. But, if you are serious, then contacting the consulate of the country you would prefer to move to will provide you with all the information you need. Citizenship is damn tough if not impossible for most countries but permanent residency status is generally possible. The difficulty of obtaining permanent residency status varies widely from country to country but the most welcoming I've seen is Jamaica or Cuba unless you have a few million dollars then moving to the Bahamas is a snap.

It's easy: Get a job, save money, buy a ticket, move.

Ya, it’s quite reasonable to assume that in some places, any relationship between the winning candidate and the number of votes for that candidate would be coincidental at best.

"It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything." - Stalin

I'm sure Putin approves, Comrade Bilby.

However, in the US, it really does depend upon those who vote. Bitching and moaning means nothing if a person doesn't bother to put down their smartphone, get off their fucking ass and actually vote.

It's already Wednesday morning here, and we still don't have any results.

Perhaps your President decided not to have elections anymore.

Guess you didn't notice how rude your Prime Minister was on the phone to our Great President.

To be fair, that was one of our many former Prime Ministers. We change them about twice as often as we have elections to pick one.

The US doesn't have PMs. Are you are Brit or an Aussie, something else? Are you living in the US? Why? Why not stay "home"?

Watching CNN, they say it does not look like a Blue Wave :(

I think Dems will win control of House, but there will not be the 40+ seat swing some predicted. Also, GOP looks good in the Senate right now. Is that a backlash to Dems' failed Kavenaugh Gambit?
I also think that Dems overreached in Georgia and Florida nominating very left-wing candidates for governor. I think Stacy Evans would have done better than Abrams, and a less left candidate than Gillum (and one who is not under FBI investigation) would have done better. Likewise, Beto O'Rourke is popular with progressives, but too left for Texas.

What makes you think that I am living in the US?

Well clearly you have never tried to move to a different country.

It's easy to go as a tourist. To become a permanent resident of a new country is typically much harder (and certainly requires a lot more than an airline ticket). To become a citizen is harder still. I know - because I did it back in the mid '90s.

Well, to be fair, there are some crocs in our Sunshine State too, even if it's mostly gators.

Depends on the country. In Germany and Sweden, you just have to pretend to be a Muslim.

So the Sunshine State with crocs but NOT gators isn't the one in the USA, then, is it.

That's quite simply untrue, and a massive derail towards a hobbyhorse topic of yours that already has more than enough threads dedicated to it.

Developed countries might be hard but there are many developing middle income countries where an American passport is a golden ticket.

I understand, but it is an easy mistake to make. :)

I exaggerate, but only by a little. And it's not a derail, it's simply responding to the existing derail about leaving the country.

No, pretty much just rank vote suppression.

At the risk of jumping the gun, it looks like the House will flip.

Is there any chance the Democrats will not hand the Speaker's gavel back to Pelosi? I don't think they should.

They really shouldn’t, but they will. We can look forward to a lot of tepid slinking around and doing nothing.

Also, it’s early. They can still fuck out what should have been an easy win and fail to take the House. Don’t count their incompetence out yet.

And you had a leg up moving within the commonwealth. There is an even higher wall for outsiders.

Never mind. They just called the House for the Dems. Way to be marginally competent!

So what happens next? Can the House Republicans somehow use their remaining time to sabotage the dems, for example by reverting the rules about subpoena powers?

Nope. Since 1981, whether one is moving within the commonweath or not makes no difference when coming to Australia.

Andrew Gillum is not under FBI investigation, but clearly Republicans lies worked.
